Description

It is the last album to feature songwriting contributions from former lead guitarist Dave Mustaine, and the first to feature contributions from his replacement, Kirk Hammett. The album was recorded in three weeks with producer Flemming Rasmussen at Sweet Silence Studios in Copenhagen, Denmark. I say that because it is better than Kill'em All and not the over-bloated extra long songs of Master or Justice.

UMR/Mercury are pressing 11 of Metallica’s studio album back catalogue on custom coloured vinyl for the first time for World ex North America; following the 2021 Walmart exclusive coloured vinyl series in the US. Fade to Black' is a ballad that builds to an instrumental coda featuring the guitar melodies that the band would later base their sound around. The set starts out with two tunes that would have been right at home on Kill 'em All, but the next two are slower and more involved. The first thing that bothers me with this album is how very few moments of thrash metal are on here, and yeah, at the time this album was made, thrash metal barely existed as a term, let alone had a definition, but a few of the songs barely sound made by the same band that made Kill Em All. In the edit page, go to the 'Metadata' tab and add your Juno artist, label or release page for listeners to purchase your release / releases.

I'm convinced that (the songs) "Escape," and "Creeping Death," weren't made by Metallica, but by a symphonic metal band playing speed metal. FWIW, I purchased it new and while it came with the merchandise flyer it also came in a clear plastic inner, not the printed one.

Fight Fire With Fire": That acoustic intro belongs on a power metal album, and definitely not the opening to this song.

I ran these through a DAW and corrected the speed and the tracks sound much better even at a slightly slower tempo. This is what I mean when I say this album is disappointing compared to Kill Em All, which is an album that I love. This reissued record from Metallica should need no introduction if you are in any way interested in thrash metal. Cliff's bass cuts through the mix here, so if you like that growly bass of his, this is the version to own. I don’t understand some of the negative feedback Chalkys get - I have never had any problem and would absolutely recommend them. For Whom the Bell Tolls" sounds dangerously close to power metal, and it tests my patience considerably, though the riffs are awesome!
