Beware the stalker of dreams, — Scarlet, talking to Icicle via dreamvisitor, had nearly caused the death of the dragonets of destiny. This could also be a reference to Flame, as he came into possession of a dreamvisitor as well. This might also be referring to Darkstalker, who helped Moonwatcher out of her vision dreams. The Griffins were in danger, there were only a few left and with the start of a war, they were at risk of extinction. The Griffins join up with the gang to stop the war. Abilities: can breathe underwater, see in the dark, create huge waves with one splash of their powerful tails; excellent swimmers

Songs of Magic Series by S.A. Patrick - Goodreads

Patch is a good character without being portrayed as a chosen one or a hero. He takes help as and when required, consults his team and makes mistakes that he continues to repent (and feel guilty) for. This book is the sequel to a Darkness of Dragons which I have reviewed previously. I had high hopes for this book and was delighted that it had the same main characters. Yeah, you were right, Torch,” she said. “Good thinking. All right, you prince-loving traitor, time to come with us.” I enjoyed book one "A Darkness of Dragons" a while ago and was excited to see this second book come out. What?” Palm reached up to touch the glowing fire opals in her ears. “These? But they were a gift from —” A Dark Inheritance is an exciting start to a new series by Chris D'Lacey, who already has a big fan base for his Last Dragon Chronicles. Readers who enjoy Patch, Wren and Barver’s adventures will also enjoy Abi Elphinstone’s Rumblestar series and Michelle Harrison’s Widdershins Adventures. Abilities: can breathe fire, disappear into dark shadows; once known for reading minds and foretelling the future, but no longer Abilities: can breathe fire (if warm enough), hold their breath for up to an hour, blend into large mud puddles; usually very strong

A Darkness of Dragons - Foreword Reviews A Darkness of Dragons - Foreword Reviews

The characters were all realistic. Some of them lied, made mistakes, but they all learn and grow and try to do better whenever they realise what they were doing. It is not done in a preachy way. Qibli knows Darkstalker must be stopped. And he knows he could stop him — if he had magic. With even a sliver of the ancient dragon’s all-powerful scroll, Qibli could rewrite history the right way: end war forever; make every dragon happy; perhaps even cast a very small spell so that everyone would like him… I really enjoyed reading this book. With lots of suspense, you can’t put it down from the start. The book is an adventure filled with surprises, loyalty and three very accidental heroes. Patch (a disgraced piper), Wren (a girl cursed to live as a rat) and Barver (a dracogriff) know a secret that could mean the end of their world and it’s up to them to save everybody. It is captivating and it is the perfect book for people that love adventure books. It makes you feel like you are there with the characters. I particularly like the character Wren because she is a risk-taker and a loyal friend. I would rate this book 10/10 and I would recommend it particularly to children aged 11+. I was particularly impressed by the magic system; revolving around music and layered Songs used to manipulate energy and cast spells. I can't wait to continue the adventure with Patch, Wren, and Barver. After playing a forbidden spell-song to save a village from rats, 12-year-old piper Patch Brightwater is thrown in jail. But there he meets Wren – a noble girl under a rat-shaped curse – and together they befriend Barver, a fearsome dracogriff, and set off on a grand adventure filled with sorcerers, dragons, bandits…and one very deadly enemy.

A bond develops between these three and they set off on a quest to reverse Wren’s curse, fulfil Barver’s mothers dying wish and help Patch avoid incarceration. With a Man in the Iron Mask-style twist to the tale, they inadvertently become the only three able to face, and ultimately stop, the Hamelyn piper’s evil plan to create a piper army. With so many unanswered questions and the piper of Hamelyn still on the loose, my only disappointment is having to wait for the second novel to be published. l liked this book because how adventurous it was. Patch Brightwater is a piper and has played a forbidden song called the Dance a is thrown in jail. He has found a girl called Wren who was cursed by a sorcerer to live as a rat. A week later the dragons come to kill the evil Hamelyn piper which is a fake and the real hamelyn piper is free. My favourite bit of this book was when they discovered a teleporting machine - I wish I could teleport! I'd love to go to an Island where I could calm down and read books. She stole you away and brainwashed you. You haven't thought for yourself in years. You do exactly what she tells you to and think whatever she tells you to think. You're not your own dragon, Grandson. Everyone knows her group is basically a cult. It's true; ask anyone. The whole kingdom has figured out that her Outclaws are blind followers. You don't want to be a blind follower, do you, Qibli? Don't you want to think for yourself?" — Vulture to Qibli about Thorn, Darkness of Dragons Instead, as Darkstalker’s dangerous influence spreads across Pyrrhia, entrancing or killing every dragon in the seven tribes, Qibli can only grasp the small animus objects he’s borrowed from Turtle. With some clever thinking, Qibli’s talons finally hold the power to make a difference.

The second instalment sees the 3 main characters continue their adventures and quests. This time we get to learn more about the hippogriff Barver and meet some new characters including toxic baby dragons, monster-puppies and pirate kings. Definitely a thrilling twist on a classic fairy tale with oodles of adventure, magic and friendship.Oh, by the circle of snakes,” her sister snapped, throwing the towel at her. “I told you to stay away from that prince. You should have left the palace with me when he first started mooning around the kitchens. I knew he’d get you killed sooner or later, and probably me too if I didn’t clear out.”
