I crept inside, unnoticed in the crowd of boarders. Two of the younger girls pretended to dance with invisible partners, but every other eye was fixed on my sister, the most talented girl in the room. The climax felt a little rushed. There’s one good decision Jani took at that stage, but still, it kind of left me wanting. Bet they give fancy kisses, too.” A girl with beige skin and ruddy cheeks made a vulgar gesture with her tongue. Thankfully Zosa didn’t notice. Instead, a grin split her face.

Jani was the most brought to life, and things started to get here with Bel, and yet I got to know Beatrice more intimately than Bel in most scenes.

The courier clutched her chest and felt her heart pound in an erratic rhythm—harder than it ever had before. This was all wrong. She lunged to stop the man, but golden smoke twined around her ankles, restraining her. She opened her mouth to scream, but no sound escaped her lips, not even a whimper. My issue with this book is that Jani just continuously got herself into awkward or bad situations which always had negative effects- and this just got way too repetitive. It had me thinking “honestly, how much trouble can one character inadvertently get themselves into!?” Did you eat supper?” I’d left her something, but with all the other girls around, food had a tendency to disappear. Bézier glanced above the hearth to the decade-old sheet of parchment sheathed behind glass: her invitation. In the low light, the purple ink shone with the same iridescence as the advertisement. “Hotel Magnifique is returning, I see.”

year old Jani is doing all she can to take care of her 13 year old sister Zosa after the death of her mother a few years ago. But even her best efforts lead to a minimally fulfilling existence. When she hears that the legendary Hotel Magnifique is going to be in town and hiring new staff, Jani decides that she will secure a job for them both there, no matter how. After all, the hotel appears just for one night in a decade and she can’t miss this chance. Taylor has built an enchanting world.Even those who are not drawn to fantasy will enjoy this fast-paced, magical adventure.” – SLJ The paper caught, burning pink, then green, then crimson, turning the hearth into a dazzling display of rainbow flames. The flames shot higher, raging into the chimney, creating a more arresting sight than the storefronts of boulevard Marigny. Bézier glanced above the hearth to the decade-old sheet of parchment sheathed behind glass: her invitation. In the low light, the purple ink shone with the same iridescence as the advertisement. “Hotel Magnifique is returning, I see.”With the vexingly handsome doorman Bel as her only ally, Jani embarks on a mission to unravel the mystery of the magic at the heart of the hotel and free Zosa — and the other staff — from the cruelty of the ruthless maître d’hôtel. To succeed, she’ll have to risk everything she loves, but failure would mean a fate far worse than never returning home. The setting and world-building are wonderful. The hotel, its rooms, the enchantments, etc., are descriptive, detailed, and a treat to read. The fictitious setting matches the dark mood of the storyline. De la angajatul doritor la pacoste A beautifully lush and spellbindingly enchanting YA Fantasy, Hotel Magnifique is filled with gorgeous prose, immersive world building and an expansive cast of interesting (and eccentric) characters that fans of Caraval and The Night Circus are going to adore.

Bézier, however, didn’t laugh or think it odd. Instead, she glanced at her old invitation wistfully. Can't say it's enemies-to-lovers but they definitely go from the MC disliking him a lot to liking him a lot. It's obvious the guy has fallen for her first but ofc. our protagonist stays blind (or in denial). I'm glad their romance wasn't rushed but again, if it was slow-burn, I didn't like it. The emotions just were NOT there. While I crave romance in books, I think it would have been great if Bel and Jani became close friends and remained like that or that they went onto the romance stage after that.Jani and Zosa do find a job as the staff. Jani is delighted and amazed until she realizes that Hotel Magnifique hides sinister seamlessly behind smiles and whimsical enchantments. It doesn’t help that her every step causes some or the other trouble for her and Bel. Being swept away into a dazzling magical hotel that travels around the world should immediately mean that I loved this book, but I felt that the hotel itself and the places they travelled came second to the main character being really, really annoying.
