After reading Cinderella Is Dead, you will never look at the original Grimms fairytale in the same way ever again. I’m not sure if this is necessarily a con, but I felt like I was reading a book aimed at the pre-teen audience. He retaliated by slowly sucking out her life force and keeping her prisoner in the palace until she died, completely drained and alone. Furthermore, Sophia is prepared to fight for freedom and strive to release the people of Lille from their grinding existence, whatever the cost to herself.

I know that she doesn't want to marry a man just because her king demands it (which is valid) and that she wants to get out of this situation. However, she has no interest in having a relationship with a man; she wants to be with Erin, her childhood sweetheart. Deft in sword play, she allures Sophia with her confidence, pride in her identity and belief in herself. If a girl is not chosen after three balls, she’s considered a forfeiture and is never heard from again.A wonderfully dark, twisty, and refreshingly different take on the Cinderella fairy tale that I absolutely adored reading. From the beginning, for some reason this never happens, but i never shipped Sophia and Erin, usually if someone likes someone i ship them and if one of the someones changes i change my ship. The magic of CINDERELLA IS DEAD lies not with pumpkin carriages or fairy god mothers, but with girls taking control of their own fairytale endings, overthrowing toxic patriarchies, and learning to walk like they bear crowns.

She was a really interesting character, just as strong-willed and determined as Sophia and by the end I loved her. Her romance with Constance, while having its cute moments, was very rushed and could have been better developed.

If nobody chooses them they have to face a terrifying kind of threatening future awaits unwanted women.If anything, this book shows there is hope and if you fight hard enough for what you believe in and what’s right, something good might just happen. At the ball, Sophia makes the dangerous decision to escape, and she flees to Cinderella’s mausoleum. Probably my biggest disappointment of the year, I know this book is already loved by many readers and I'm glad they had a great time reading this book. Unfortunately, it doesn’t really lead to anything which is a shame because I loved the potential there.

We need more people like her in the world because she is so determined and wants to make things right that you just can’t help but root for her. I loved how every time we heard the story of Cinderella, there was a new twist that completely changed my opinion of the earlier versions. As the palace guards are chasing her, she finds a hiding place in Cinderella's tomb and this is where she meets Constance. Now a wanted criminal, on her own for the first time, outside the grip of the kingdom, Sophia begins to learn more about the kingdom's history and finds that the lore the society is based upon is nothing but a bag of lies.They embark on a magical journey to discover how to defeat the ruler and in the process, they learn there’s more to Cinderella’s story than they could have imagined.
