Winemaker Nancy Walker enlisted multiple California wine-growing regions to source fruit for this Cabernet Sauvignon, creating a final blend that’s rich and complex. The wine is aged nine to 12 months in French oak barrels and is finished for three more months in ex-bourbon barrels. That latter step imparts a bolder and more intense character. Ben Blake, Head of Marketing EMEA at Treasury Wine Estates, adds; “Wolf Blass was born from the spirit of its founder to never settle but soar above the rest. The opportunity to therefore partner with Warner Bros. Consumer Products on a House of the Dragon-inspired wine was a no brainer.

Facebook HBO’s House of the Dragon is the hotly anticipated prequel to one of the most-watched TV series in history – Game of Thrones. To gear up for this exciting launch of Treasury Wine Estates’ award-winning premium wine brand, Wolf Blass, and Warner Bros. Consumer Products have partnered to launch a limited-edition wine which will be available in August, timed to the launch of House of the Dragon. I AM a self-confessed Game of Thrones addict and had read all the books way before the series came to our screens. Therefore, I have to admit I was a touch sceptical about the launch of a red wine to coincide with HBO’s House of the Dragon, a prequel following the history of the Targaryen family 100 or so years before Daenerys encountered the White Walkers; but I should not have worried. Without spoiling the Dragon premiere for those who haven’t yet seen it—but really, what else could you have been doing last night?—we can confirm that wine appears to be as popular as ever in King’s Landing, and that winter seems not so much to be coming in this earlier tale, so Finland’s Game of Thrones–themed igloo hotel may need to be repurposed as a cooling center for those seeking sanctuary from those hot-headed Targaryens and their flame-breathing dragons (or from, you know, Europe’s real-life summer heat crisis). The garnet-colored wine has aromatics of tart red cherry and cranberry, followed by subtle earthy and savory notes. The palate is medium-bodied, with silky textures and bright red fruit that shows a bit darker in profile than the nose. It’s 13.5% ABV. House of the Dragon 2019 Cabernet SauvignonThe 14.4% ABV wine is dense and jammy, with notes of cherry tobacco and creamy vanilla leading to a long, mouth-coating finish. House of the Dragon 2020 Red Wine The grapes were fermented in a combination of small open-top fermenters and stainless steel fermenting tanks, with selected yeasts propagated from cellars in Burgundy. It was pressed during the last days of fermentation and matured in a combination of small French oak barrels and larger stainless steel tanks for eight months.

Vintage Wine Estates, one of the fastest-growing wine producers in the U.S. with an industry leading direct-to-customer platform, and Warner Bros. Located directly east of San Francisco at the edge of the Sacramento River Delta, the Lodi appellation is noted for its Mediterranean climate, distinctive sandy soils and heritage old vines.

The shiraz grape contributes a mid-palate fruit sweetness, with plush fruit weight, well balanced with structural oak and supportive tannins.
