Description

With the Cardhi 18 the fruitiness is richer and the long term of maturation makes this Cardhu a very sumptuous one, that doesn’t lose its sweet and fruity basic structure. A decade ago, Cardhu was at the center of scotch’s first big supply flap. Although The Whiskey Reviewer has disproved the myth that whiskey around the world is suffering from a general and widespread supply crisis, the idea that rising international demand is putting a supply pinch on some whiskey brands is valid enough. Cardhu was just such a brand. We may, but are not under any obligation, to release new functionalities and tools or other features for the Service every now and then. Whisky lovers like you and me sometimes forget about what I would call ‘the basics’. We are so spoiled with the liquid nectar that we no longer stand still to try the stuff we all started with – well, at least I am guilty of this. Returning to the basics is actually a good idea, so let me set an example. Today I will try the Cardhu 12, the heart of many a Johnnie Walker blend and very popular in southern Europe. Collection Tour: A guided tour including the history of the distillery, followed by the tasting of five different Cardhu Single Malt Whiskies.

The Cardhu 12 year old is another good reminder for me that there's good things outside Islay. It is also a good example delicate sherry taste, that doesn't strike me down right at the faceoff. Cardhu 12 is absolutely nice and smooth but with a surprisingly stunning alcohol feel in it. In 1824 the Cummings could afford to buy a distilling license after the Exise Act of 1823 had reduced duties. They bought new stills and in the beginning were helped selling and distributing their Whisky by their friend George Smith, later founder of Glenlivet. Intro: I decided to buy a bottle of Cardhu 12 for several reasons: 1)I was curious about the separate flavour of a malt that served as a big component of the Johnnie Walker blends and that is not often encountered outside of them, 2)Jim Murray rated it at 90/100 pts in his current Whisky Bible, 3)I like both the name and the bottle art, and 4)the bottle was not expensive.

Due to the hill the farm distillery was on, Helen could see the police coming and would throw flour on herself and say that she was baking bread to disguise the smell. She would then offer them tea and fly a flag outside so that the other nearby distilleries could see and take prompt action. Cardhu, Diageo’s best selling single malt Scotch whisky, was originally founded in 1811 by a notorious whisky smuggler called John Cumming. The Cardhu distillery sits high on the Northern banks of the river Spey in Moraytown, overlooking the imposing mountain range, Ben Rinnes. John licensed the distillery a year after the Excise Act of 1823, thereby ending his illicit operation. If we decide not to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms, such decision shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. The Cardhu single malt has a good body on it, but I found it out of balance. Most of the flavors are on the soft side, but that peppery bite, while not harsh, throws the whiskey off kilter. It’s just a bit too strong, and that is what makes it a B- instead of a B.Each and every Member must be of legal drinking age in its country of residence to be allowed to use the Service. It is not surprising, perhaps, that Cardhu is also accepted to have been the first of the Speyside distilleries to take out one of the new licences after the Excise Act was passed in 1823.
