and you will find power in you no one else will ever dream of. You will have hunger no one else will ever feel, and it will drive you. It will push you to madness or else to greatness, and you have only to choose for yourselves what your futures will be.” The banter between Sasha and Lev was also pretty cute—I lived for their text banter and adorableness. I also have issues with Olivie's Dramione fanfic. Maybe I've outgrown Dramione. Or maybe she is just wordier than I prefer. Bringing a self-assured, intelligent manner to this dark mixture of urban fantasy, romance, Russian folklore, and Shakespearean storytelling, narrator Ferdelle Capistrano has a fine time giving voice to the seven beautiful but cunning Antonova sisters and the three equally cunning Fedorov brothers--all of whom are well versed in the dark arts." - AudioFile

Next to Roman stood Lev, the youngest. If his brothers were planetary bodies, Lev was an ocean wave. He was in constant motion, a tide that pulsed and waned. Even now, as he stood behind Dimitri, his fingers curled and uncurled reflexively at his sides, his thumb beating percussively against his thigh. Lev had a keen sense of danger, and he perceived it now, sniffing it out in the air and letting it creep between the sharp blades of his shoulders. It got under his skin, under his bones, and gifted him a shiver. It was no whispered confession. It was no gentle murmur in the dark. It was the truth, plain and bare, and she wasn’t vulnerable for having said it. Instead, she wore her love like a shield, like armor, and he ached for her; for what she was to him; for what they might have been.” It was no whispered confession. It was no gentle murmur in the dark. It was the truth, plain and bare, and she wasn’t vulnerable for having said it. Instead, she wore her love like a shield,” I love this retelling! It was a captivating story full of love, heartbreak, betrayals, and spells. I can see myself rereading this over and over again! If you're a fan of Romeo and Juliet, this is a must-read!And also, the female rage and vengeance arcs of certain characters were executed SO well and made me feel proud but at the same time, frustrated with some of the decisions they made. If I ever decide to give my heart to you, Dima, she’d said, holding his hand palm up, then cut it out of my chest and keep it somewhere safe, where no one else can get to it.” She is called Baba Yaga, and of all of her many trinkets, her daughter remains the greatest treasure of them all.”

No,” Dimitri corrected, laughing his clever warrior’s laugh, “because you wouldn’t have let me, Papa. Nor would Roma,” he added, gesturing over his shoulder to where Roman had stumbled forward, nearly falling over himself in his effort to keep the baby aloft. “Because we are all brothers,” Dimitri explained, and Roman blinked, watching Koschei’s eyes widen with understanding. YA giant Clare makes her adult debut with a whirlwind epic fantasy featuring secret plots, ancient magic, and hidden identities. The brief pause that passed between them was loaded with things neither expressed aloud nor requiring explanation. That time had passed was obvious, even to Lev. She paused for a moment in the stillness, in the paralysis between motions, in the cliff-edge between what was and what could be, and for a moment she simply luxuriated there,” One day I hope I can love one of Blake's book without any complicated or mixed feelings about it. But we've yet to have that day, it seems. In One For My Enemy, Olivie Blake takes the classic tale of star-crossed lovers for a witchy, modernized spin, regaling us with the story of two magical Russian families silently warring in the midst of New York City. loved the family vibes in this one, although i wish we got to see even more of the antonova siblings besides marya and sasha! I will always love you. I will love you until the day I die—and if you’re the one to kill me, then by all means, you should know without a doubt that you will not have turned me away. I will have spent the final beat of my heart loving you, just as I always have.” Enter the brutal and elite world of a war college for dragon riders from USA Today bestselling author Rebecca Yarros

One for My Enemy by Olivie Blake | Goodreads

Blake's writing is grandiose, but in THE BEST POSSIBLE WAY. This is a sweeping, lyrical retelling of Romeo and Juliet that is SOMEHOW both less and more tragic than it's Shakespearian roots. Her prose is a sort of songlike intensity that makes the novel feel magnified, romantic and edged at the same time; Not over flowery or pretentious- but detailed and and clever enough to blow you away.

Oh my sweet Masha. I think Masha's ending may have been the most bittersweet for me. Her grief and pain felt so deep and incredibly real. She deserved so much and got so little, and that completely ruined me. I'm glad she managed to find herself in the end rather than being completely lost to insanity. I'm happy that she at least got somewhat of a happy ending. Emphasis on somewhat. Compelling, entertaining, and addictive. The Atlas Six is academic Darwinism: survival of the smartest with a healthy dose of magic." — T.L. Huchu, author of The Library of The Dead I never have a bad time reading an Olivie Blake book and this was no exception. One for My Enemy feels like a modern mashup of Romeo and Juliet, Russian mythology, and Practical Magic. It has Shakespearean levels of melodrama, enemy families that are deeply intertwined, magical drugs, death that may or may not last, starcrossed lovers, and wonderfully vicious women. overall, i see why people did not like this book because it reads like a play with a character list, staging, and a random inventory list. i think if you enjoy the story of romeo & juliet and the remakes of it you will definitely enjoy this. even though i did not give this a five star i truly did love this book so much and my heart is forever w these characters ❤️‍🩹 If you're looking for somewhere to start with Blake's writing, I scream from the rooftops that this is the one to start with. It is less complex than The Atlas Six without being simpler, if that makes any sense? It's an Urban Fantasy with some of the most beautifully written relationships I've read. Considering it was done so well over the span of a single book is even more impressive.
