Back home in Scotland after serving in the Met, when it comes to who to trust, he doesn't have many choices. Janie on the other hand is a truly original and utterly badass character and in my opinion makes this book so much more interesting.

The knowledge informs the narrative rather than dominates it, and it is the thrill of the investigation, the threat to the various characters, and that sense of urgency which is built into every chapter, that really drives the pace and the story along. More than a ‘Who Dunnit’, this is a sharply focused police procedural with an expert eye for the hierarchies within a department.

Highly recommended for lovers of Lee Childs' Jack Reacher - I actually pictured Max as Tom Cruise - but alas not for me. While this book is the first in the series, I felt like I was already reading about characters that I had established a connection with.
