Now that I’ve got an electric Makita mower (DLM464), I can compare the pros and cons of each, which I hope will be useful to others. DeWalt advertises this mower as having the ‘power of corded without the cord’ and it isn’t difficult to see why they’ve made this claim. It comes with two 5.0Ah 18v batteries that deliver great power for a longer period of time, making this the ideal mower for larger lawn areas. Although if you wanted to go one step further, it is possible to power-share between other tools from this range and some users like to insert 2 x 9.0Ah batteries for maximum running time. Without getting into the optional extras, the mower gives a standard range of features (height adjustment, mulching, etc.) which will be fine for probably the majority of situations. Performance in terms of the battery life is difficult to be certain about, in that the mower has only been used a few times so far but battery life seems to be slightly longer with each use, so there may be an element of bedding-in involved. Also, I fitted the mower with two 9Ah batteries, rather than the standard 5Ah, but even on the first use there was just enough power to cut approx. 140m2 of lawn.
