Adventure and danger do, it's true, come to the town in the end and Viv plays her part in defeating it, but I was pleased to see that Viv's success was due as much or more to the friendships she's made as to her fighting prowess (in contrast to the episode at the start where she fails just because she tries to do it all herself). and sometimes, if we are lucky enough, a door of friendship that seemed to be behind a locked door, can open once again, along with new joy and new adventures. Maybe Val will be the one to introduce the indoor mall to the world after acquiring a gigantic abandoned palace she can't afford to maintain for her own. She is a dwarf, so, just like Fern, she barely reaches Viv's knee and keeps feeding everyone pastries.

Someone had wrestled the strawtick mattress onto the floor, and though her legs still went off the end, they’d positioned her pack so her foot was propped, keeping the wounded leg elevated. Rather its mainstay is nautical charts and popular fiction (Baldree gives us little glimpses of this).Through meeting the right people at the right time, or maybe the right people at the wrong time, Viv will eventually realize there is more to life than just fighting and killing. It took me a little while to become invested in this story, but once I did I couldn't leave this wonderfully crafted world. I never thought I would be into cozy fantasy but the first book pleasantly surprised me so I was very excited for the prequel.

But if you have read Legends and Lattes first, there is the possibility the stakes of the plotline will feel even lower than it should be. Beautifully humane, it is a loving reminder that the best parts of life are what happens between the big moments.Viv has been hunting down Varine the necromancer with her Ravens crew when she unfortunately gets injured. i dont want to give too much away, but if the author is setting up things the way i think he is, i am going to be begging tor every time for an arc because truly this series will probably become my favorite setting of all time. It's a story about connections and growth and the hopeful yet sorrowful echoes of what is yet to come. She also finds a little mystery to solve after a man in gray appears in town and makes people uneasy. Baldree has mentioned three more standalone fantasy novels in this series will be written and published, and the first one is slated to be released in 2025.

This charming outing will please anyone who’s ever wished to spend time in a fantasy world without all the quests and battles. The perfect follow up to Legends and Lattes, it was so good to be with Viv again and to see a bit about how she became the orc we love so much.i just loved this book completely, and, the epilogue of this book is a six star read all on its own. Reading Viv finding pleasure in reading for the first time put a smile on my face, and I wouldn't mind having more of her reading and eating delicious foods.
