We really like this more than the original rectangular box because it fits on our game shelf more nicely with all our other games.

Once the rest of the players have resolved the actions on their card, players draw back up to three cards, the first player (or captain) token moves to the next player and the sequence repeats. You don’t really drive the ship – you just point it in an optimistic direction and hope the winds will carry you where you want to go. That means if you have acquired this powerful item you are a fearsome opponent on the board and people will likely try to stay well out of your way. Yet, it doesn’t mean you’re completely out of the game yet either–because everyone has the same limited amount of action cards in their decks too. Second- if a player ends the game by moving to the final space, and then another player moves to the final space that turn, do they fight each other?

Jamaica is essentially a pirate ship racing game for 2-6 players designed by Bruno Cathala, Malcolm Braff and Sebastien Pauchon.

In February 1678, after a long career of piracy, Henry Morgan cleverly manages to get himself named Governor of Jamaica, charged with driving out pirates and buccaneers! But the first buccaneer back isn’t guaranteed to win… Instead, the richest pirate at this moment takes the bragging rights. Because of its simplicity, it may not appeal to everyone, but I would say that despite this it still manages to engage every player, create an exponential increase in tension as players approach the finish line in typical rat-race type fashion, and remains an entertaining experience throughout. years later, the Great Challenge is organized to celebrate his nomination in true style: a race around the island, at the end of which the winning team is the one having amassed the greatest quantity of gold in its holds. As it turns out, Jamaica has had a long run of popularity since its initial release, and the expansion has apparently done well since it came out.

It’s not a huge game changer of an expansion, but the cards do add some interesting decisions and options to the base game (and it reduces your chances of getting a cursed treasure). This simplicity mixed with some strategic options makes Jamaica ideal for groups that contain both hardcore gamers and newbies. You remove three treasures from this deck before play so sometimes it comes up and sometimes it doesn’t.
