I believe that, in general, the book manages to portray in a proper way the misfortunes, problems, and barriers that we have in the current job market, especially when it comes to young women, bringing very valuable and pertinent reflections on how to deal with these issues and validating feelings that often seem to be wrong, isolated and insignificant because they are not debated in an open and welcoming way in most spaces. Reading about a woman dealing with career burnout was utterly relatable but I found the execution fell a little flat for me. The author makes nods at various themes so subtly that it allows the reader to make their own conclusions and opinions which makes the trials and tribulations feel more personal. I found this book super fun, engaging, and almost inspiring in reminding you to pursue your dreams and be yourself in a world of absurd chaos.

This all jarred with her sex blog, a girl so confident she would publish her sex life for all to read, including her possibly violent father. The characters are raw, they are vulnerable, they are flawed and floundering in a world which is telling them that its all about female empowerment but quick kick you down for expressing your views.Hilarious, astute and full of human truths, Careering is a compelling and thoughtful read that every woman (and man) should have on their shelves. Appallingly funny and ruthlessly honest, CAREERING shines a deeply human light on the exhausting highs and lows of life as a modern working woman.

While it would’ve been nice to see these areas further developed, Buchanan is at her best poising those existential, quarter-life-crisis questions through a tongue-in-cheek, humorous tone.

Exploring the exhausting push-pull of trying to pin down a career you love but that doesn't love you back, Buchanan's book is set to capture the zeitgeist as so many of us question where we're at. This novel should be a must-read for everybody who has ever thought life will be better once their work rewards them. the narrative did feel a little disjointed due to the quick pov switches between imogen and harri, and some of the dialogue was a little cringey at times.

Writing her blog around double shifts at the pub is neither fulfilling her creatively nor paying the bills. I laughed a lot at the way things were described and the thoughts that came to mind during Imogen’s chapters.Daisy has woven an astute tale of ambition and its place in women's lives, putting words to feelings I've had for age.
