Overall, The Summer of Broken Rules waltzed into my life, and like in Assassin, shot me straight in the heart, putting me under it’s spell. What I loved above all else was the MOST AMAZING summer vacation game – truly, I’m not exaggerating. at the very start mer was telling about her boyfriend ben and how he broke up with her a few days before her cousin’s wedding week, that he should’ve attend with mer. The mix of budding romance, competitive hijinks, a close-knit circle, as well as dealing with loss make for a satisfying read.like girl, u just broke up with the guy u were for 4 motherfucking years and 7 days later u already in love with another one? Unfortunately, Meredith’s longtime boyfriend unexpectedly dumped her two weeks before the wedding, leaving her dateless. Perfect for fans of Jenny Han and Katie Cotugno, this is a story of loss, romance, and the time it takes to become who you really want to be. They support each other in good times and bad with warmth and wisdom, while also giving each other the freedom and space to learn and grow on their own.

Despite these difficulties, Wit is attentive and affectionate and represents everything that Meredith wants in a romantic partner.It's honestly really funny how you can be all like "aw this is so cute and fun" in the beginning of a book and then you reach the halfway point and then suddenly you're all "oh my god whyyy" with a bunch of eye rolls. I immediately fell for her, my throat closing up as I read about her, still trying to deal with the loss of her sister. Yes, loss and grief was a part of the story but there weren’t a ton of sad moments, and it felt more like a summer romance, than someone trying to get over a loss. But when she forms an alliance with a cute groomsman, she's at risk of losing both the game… and her heart. The Summer of Broken Rules has warmth, humor, tons of Taylor Swift song references, and of course a dreamy love interest, with mourning a loss adding to the emotional range.
