Description

A girl and her child imprisoned in a basement, the disappearance of a young mother that has confounded the local authorities for the last few years, having all the hallmarks of a cold case.

I’m going to say this now, before we get started. You won’t like it, but trust me, I’ve done this more times than I care to punish myself remembering. In a case like this – a kid – nine times out of ten it’s someone close to home. Family, friend, neighbour, someone in the community. Don’t forget that. However distraught they look, however unlikely it seems, they know who did it. Perhaps not consciously, and perhaps not yet. But they know. Close To Home is, I believe, the first mystery/thriller book I have given one star to. I had very high hopes for this one. And it crashed my hopes quite hard. I don't think I've ever changed my mind so many times regarding who the perpetrator was - so congratulations to the author for keeping me guessing right until the end. I'm not sure the ending was quite believable, but having been utterly gripped throughout, I'm willing to go with it. The ending - it just wasn't worth the wait, and it was the most unsatisfying ending I have ever encountered in mystery novels. Promising new police procedural series about the disappearance of an eight-year-old girl. Close to Home offers compelling characters, an unpredictable mystery, and some surprising twists and turns.

year old Daisy Mason has disappeared from her parents summer barbecue in Oxford; there were lots of guests - neighbours, school friends, their parents, but nobody saw a thing and were therefore unable to help with police enquiries. But the one thing all police officers hate more than anything else, is a case involving a child, and DI Adam Fawley and his team will leave no stone unturned in their search for Daisy. Thank you to the team at Penguin Random House, for proving an audiobook for me listen to, in exchange for an honest review. The most addictive book you'll read all year ... Uniquely told and simply bloody brilliant.' - John Marrs Lo que me gusta de esta autora es que además va combinando la historia con archivos de prensa y comentarios que puede hacer la gente en las redes.

A woman and child are found clinging to live in the basement; their alleged captor upstairs with his dong out on the toilet confused af. He claims he doesn't know about the victims... but the math just ain't mathin. Btw, there's NO chapters in this book, just scene breaks. If this sends you into orbit, you've been warned. Last night, eight-year-old Daisy Mason disappeared from a family party. No one in the quiet suburban street saw anything – or at least that’s what they’re saying. Adam and his team become embroiled in the tensions and awkward relationships that exist within the Mason family and strange and unsettling details soon begin to emerge. The literary world already has a huge number of successful Detective series, but I believe DI Adam Fawley will find his place amongst those successes with this excellent debut novel from Cara Hunter, as 'Close to Home' has all the makings of a great series. Es una novela de casi quinientas páginas que devoras sin casi percatarte. Ya el inicio te atrapa con ese insólito descubrimiento y las terribles consecuencias que traerá consigo. There were so many twists and unexpected curveballs thrown here that I was in danger of getting whiplash. This series, which was at the lower end of my favorites, has moved way to the top! I cannot wait to read book three! I am HOOKED!
