This is great in case you want to keep your hydration and your nutrition separate, or if you prefer to have a bottle for cooling off mid-race. On top of that, a frame mounted hydration system is within easy reach for a cage type and is easier to refill for the contained type of hydration system. This type also suffers less destabilization than a rear mounted hydration system but more vibration that a front mounted hydration system. First, the RML is not that secure and is liable to send your bottles flying when you ride over rough terrain. Step 2: Is the precision built in clip. This, in combination with our O-ring provides us with a much more solid hold. This is recommended for off-road use. Finally, this hydration system maximizes its design with an aerodynamic profile as well as a non-slip grip.

Torpedo – This is a contained system, and a type of modified front mounted hydration system. The main benefit of this mount is that there is no need to carry and hold the bottle to drink water. You can sip the water through its extended feeder tube. The only trouble with this mount is that it takes more time to refill and the feeder tube can also cause leakage. Indeed, according to simulations by Swiss Side, a pure aero road bike with clincher or tubeless tyres may have been the fastest bike setup for Stage 11 of the 2021 Tour de France, which included two ascents of Mont Ventoux. Rear – This is a cage type of mount for the hydration system. The main benefit of this System is that it looks familiar to most of the bikers. This is because most of the bikes come with a rear cage, and thus it does not feel anything like new. The main problem with this rear mount is that it takes more time to use, and it also creates more vibration. The watts saved by different hydration solution depends a lot on your riding speed. The faster you go the more gain you can get from using an aerodynamic solution for hydration. The slower the fewer gains you can get in comparison with a normal water bottle. So before choosing which solution is best for you, start by assessing your average speed on your next race. Custom 66 mm carbon racing rage weighs only 20 grams, contributing to a total system weight of just 70 gramsThe biggest difference between the Mini Wing 105 and most of XLAB’s other rear mounted hydration systems comes down to materials. Using an aero bottle for a triathlon can give you a marginal advantage. It gives up to a 1.5W advantage over standard bottles, which can be useful for long-distance events. This is not the best option to improve your bike aerodynamic and is not allowed for UCI races. In comparison with a 500mL standard bottle fixed on the downtube, you can have the following time gains over the length of an ironman distance: Rank Though this may sound surprising (received wisdom is weight matters above all else on climbs), the tide may be turning in our understanding of what actually slows road cyclists down. Between the arms was 1.2w slower at 40kph and 0.5w at 30kph, but the fastest location was behind the saddle at 0.7w (40kph) and 0.3w (30kph) - 20sec over an IM bike leg.

It has been hard work finding an aero water bottle. My first one kept falling out, which makes it no good. I’ve recently bought an X-Lab Aero TT bottle, which hopefully will stay put, and save the odd couple of watts. Specialized S-Works Aero Water Bottle Still, this is one of the lightest hydration systems that we saw regardless of the mounting position. A better location was the seat tube - only resulting in a 3.6w penalty at 40kph or 1.6w at 30kph (1min30sec over an IM bike leg).Easy to Drink East to Refill - Stop reaching down for frame bottles. The Torpedo Versa 200 allows you to keep both hands on the aerobar, giving you added control and confidence. Designed to allow you...

Taking these results into account, it would actually be much faster for Jess to carry two 500ml bottles on the bike, placing one between her arms and one behind the saddle, as this would only create a 1.9w (40kph) / 0.8w (30kph) total penalty, compared with behind the saddle for the 900ml bottle which was 2.5w (40kph and 1.1w (30kph) slower. The Nex-Gen ‘cage-less’ aero water bottle is the world’s first truly cage-less drink bottle designed to fit bicycle frames of all shapes and sizes with potential to reduce overall weight and significantly enhanced aerodynamic features resulting in less drag.Arguably the best quality of the Gorilla XT is the fact that it is made of carbon fiber, though this comes with some caveats too. Rear – This is the original mounting position for bike fueling systems and is almost always a cage type of hydration system. This is mostly due to the fact that snaking a feeder tube along the entire length of the bike is not an efficient design. Carbon fiber is great for hydration cages because not only is it incredibly lightweight, but it is also incredibly strong for its weight.

For those of you who do not want to have to squeeze extra hard while riding, the RZ2 comes with a bottle that is much easier to squeeze than some. Thankfully, the difference between mounting this product on an aero triathlon bike and the Wiel mountain bike frame it was made for are negligible. The Speedfil might be a more budget-friendly option, but it still provides most of the features that you expect from a front mounted torpedo position hydration system. What ultimately seals the victory is the fact that this hydration system is about 50% lighter than the Profile Designs option. One of the biggest selling points of many rear mounted hydration systems is their ability to accommodate multiple bottles. Existing Bottle / Cage systems are flawed in that the cage must always be slightly smaller in size than the bottle it is housing.
