Description

The novel opens with Ophelia, a character from a world of the Ark of Anima, where people have special skills and are related to one another through blood. Ophelia is a “reader” who has the unusual ability to read an object’s past through touch. This talent has caused her to be rejected by her family because it has made her a “reader.”

Winter’s Promisse was the book that remind me why I love fantasy so much. The world builing is amazing, the premisse is really interesting and unique and the characters… not going to lie, I loved them as well. They’re complex, have layers and motifs. La passe-miroir" de Christelle Dabos, lauréat du premier roman jeunesse". RTL.fr (in French). Archived from the original on 28 April 2018 . Retrieved 27 April 2018.She also learns that she is a pawn in a larger game and that other factions place a great value on her ability to see into the history of objects. Ophelia must navigate this dangerous world, all while keeping her true motives hidden from those around her. I read the book in two days (in my mother tongue) and rushed to the online store to buy the second one in english, as it is not translated in my idiom yet: so I would say, for me, the pacing worked very well. The mirror visitor series has created such a unique world as I have rarely read before. You are thrown right into the middle of Ophelia's life at the beginning and it is a wild roller coaster ride with all sorts of whimsical, yet somehow lovable characters. Especially all their little quirks like Thorn's dice or Ophelia's scarf or their powers made this interesting. The world can be a little difficult to understand at times, but once you get the hang of it, the author's imagination gives the reader great pleasure. It is one of the most enjoyable series I have read and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a well executed fantasy story. Renard –A member of the Dragon House and Thorn’s cousin, he is a dashing and charming man who becomes a potential romantic interest for Ophelia.

Ophelia is a hero for the ages, and I hope this series becomes the next big one that grabs the imaginations of young adults and adults alike.” Ophelia –The protagonist of the narrative, Ophelia, is a quiet, reserved young woman who has the ability to understand the history of things. Thorn, a powerful and mysterious figure from another ark, is her fiancé.

Throughout the book, Ophelia faces many challenges and obstacles, both physical and emotional. She is forced to adapt to the new customs and expectations of her new home, while also trying to uncover the truth behind the mysteries of the Arks. Note: the one thing I did like about Ophelia is that I believe she is asexual, as she mentions more than once that she’s never felt sexual attraction before. And for that, I commend the author. Now, the commentary about the uncle, I don’t think it’s fair: what he says to Ophélie is outdated, obviously. The readers feels uncomfortable and outraged and that’s the point. We now also know what type of world she lives in. It’s a clever dialoge. (If it matters, later on he tells her he’s wrong and apologies). Once she arrives, Ophelia finds that the man she is supposed to be marrying doesn’t really seem to have an interest in getting to know her. He seems indifferent and she is confused by his emotional stance as she thought this was about getting married. It appears that he doesn’t really care about her, and Ophelia slowly starts to realize that she may have been brought to this place for another reason entirely. Plain-spoken, headstrong Ophelia cares little about appearances. Her ability to read the past of objects is unmatched in all of Anima and, what’s more, she possesses the ability to travel through mirrors, a skill passed down to her from previous generations. Her idyllic life is disrupted, however, when she is promised in marriage to Thorn, a taciturn and influential member of a distant clan. Ophelia must leave all she knows behind and follow her fiancé to Citaceleste, the capital of a cold, icy ark known as the Pole, where danger lurks around every corner and nobody can be trusted. There, in the presence of her inscrutable future husband, Ophelia slowly realizes that she is a pawn in a political game that will have far-reaching ramifications not only for her but for her entire world.
