The caveat is that you’ll need a microwave to use them, which might not always be available – and, more importantly, sterilising just two bottles at a time won’t be feasible if you’re bottle-feeding full-time.

I’m aware this makes me tragic, but I found this unit so fun to use that after I’d finished with the bottles, I was looking around the house for more things to sterilise - baby bowls, scissors, toys, you name it. There’s just something so space age and satisfying about it. The items are sterile after a manufacturer-recommended 15-minute cycle – the NHS recommends 30 minutes – and remain so for as long as they’re in the solution. Plus, they don’t need rinsing off when they’re needed. Items can continue to be added and removed as necessary over 24 hours when the solution will need to be remade. The MAM Easy Start Self-Sterilising Bottle Set offers an easy switch between breast and bottle. The patented SkinSoft teats are silky soft and provide a familiar feel for babies. This set also includes a 0-2 month soother, an extra soft bottle spout and a Hold My Bottle handle. In addition to bottles, pump parts, pacifiers and cutlery, parents can sterilise frequently-used toys as invariably these will go into your baby’s mouth. How do I choose which is the best steriliser for me? For the first year, your baby's digestive system is super sensitive, and to avoid any tummy upsets you'll need to sterilise your baby feeding equipment using a microwave or electric steam steriliser. But if you’re bottle-feeding full time or expressing breastmilk regularly, you should find each of the different modes very helpful – and the fact that the warming unit handles food as well as milk means it should continue to be useful, even once you’re done with sterilising completely. Items inside stay sterile for 24 hours and the lid is designed with a flat lip so it can be laid horizontally in a smaller microwave – a useful feature we didn’t find in any other travel steriliser.

As such, there are a lot of parts to contend with and it’s not the easiest to get to grips with at first. But once you’ve put down the lengthy instructions, it’s perfectly user-friendly. Dr Browns every time - baby never had wind issues a friend of mine who fosters babies recommended them and we have never had an issue. We also used the Dr Browns steriliser."Tried and tested by Mumsnet user mommybear1 Our verdict It’s also budget-friendly and fast; delivering the goods in just two minutes for high-power microwaves (1200–1850W). In low-power microwaves (500–800W), it takes six minutes. I found the instruction manual to be the most straightforward I read. If you're on the move and are looking for a portable baby steriliser, the MAM Microwave Steam Steriliser can hold up to 6 bottles and sterilise in as little as 5 minutes. This steriliser also acts as a cold water steriliser, if required. Not the most budget-friendly electric steriliser we tested, and a more expensive initial outlay than microwave or travel versions

She looked at whether each steriliser was available from a wide range of retailers, whether you’d need to buy any extras separately and whether it was possible to buy replacement parts.
