Brilliantly bonkers, wonderfully wacky and the kind of read that many children will thoroughly enjoy getting lost in! Chris Smith has wanted to be an author ever since he was eight and won a competition by writing a story about a baby dinosaur who loved biscuits. Or as in my case, in the library for book club – as it has left me with a plethora of activity ideas.I knew that underneath all that anger was a tired woman who just wanted to freaking sleep for once but thanks to nightmares and dad she wasn’t able to. Loved that the van was electric and had a laugh at how they had to divide the energy between driving or the lab in the book.

It is a book that teaches you that even when happiness seems miles away it is much, much closer than you think! Hilarious hijinks are in abundance as the three plucky kids, who are desperate to save their parents, dash in out of dreams, carry out daring hospital heists, encounter banana loving llamas and let their imaginations run wild in an epic battle finale complete with Phantasma Plasma, a breakdancing, beatboxing unicorn named Donald, line-dancing robots and a lot of custard. We just found we weren't fully engaged when reading it, and after the first few chapters they abandoned it altogether, suggesting I read it myself rather than out loud. This includes his wife Bella and his dog Barney who is staring at him impatiently because he wants to go for a walk. The hilarious voice of Greg and Chris comes through throughout and the idea of an adventure within a dream, a hospital heist and Dream Bandits will really set this book apart from anything else in the market.
