Description

Carefully roll your red fondant out on your powdered sugar covered surface. This will be rolled out to create the “Santa hat” so it will not be round. the hat does not have to be smooth or perfect. You want it to look as though he is wearing the hat and the tip is flopped over, this is where you can use artistic interpretation. I LOVE when things don’t have to be perfect!! Swap The Sprinkles: If you cannot find candy hearts or sprinkles, use red hot candy hearts, red M&Ms, or make your own red heart with red sugar cookie icing. I came home and made one right away, but it didn’t turn out as I wanted. You see, I followed the recipe from one of those famous Food Network people but it didn’t work. It was sad. The cake tasted great but for some reason, it just didn’t look right. But then my good friend Robert suggested a genius flavor. A cake flavor inspired by Christina Tosi‘s compost cookie!!

If desired, add in green gel food coloring. Mix the color in by hand using a rubber spatula, scraping the sides and bottom of the bowl part way through. Mix until the batter is evenly colored. A cake to make the kids scream! The Grinch is coming this Christmas, with our exciting Grinch Christmas Cake, including a keepsake Dr Seuss Tree Ornament. A lovely treat to send as a gift or share with the family at Christmas For the Grinch’s face, I found a reference picture online and printed it out. Then I measured the size of my cake, and practiced drawing the face, that size, on a piece of paper. This helped me to know how big to make each element. You can practice a few times, or practice piping it on a piece of parchment paper, before you try it on a cake. Cream the vegan butter with the sugar until light and fluffy and this may take about 3-5 minutes on medium to high speed Store-bought cake mix is super convenient but you are more than welcome to make your own batters from scratch and then assemble the cake as written.Mix together all dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt) in a stand mixer with a paddle attachment until fully combined. Since this edible cookie dough wasn’t going to be baked, I was worried the texture of raw oats in the cake filling might be a bit off putting. Prepare The Pan: Pour a thin layer of green batter into the pan and line the hearts, face to face, from one end of the pan to the other (Image 5). Pour the remaining green batter over the hearts. (Image 6)

Add in the salt, baking powder, instant espresso mixture, and vanilla extract. Mix on a low speed until incorporated. Combine the cream of tartar with 2 Tbs of confectioners sugar and then add that to the whipped, firm peaked meringue, continue whipping and add the remaining confectioners sugar

RESULTS – I get why you need to use the pound cake for the heart because it is dense/heavy, but thought I’d try a cake mix for the rest. It was very difficult to figure out when it was done because the box doesn’t have a recommendation for baking a cake in a loaf pan – I didn’t write it down, so I don’t recall how long it baked (sorry). Upon slicing – the heart was perfect!!! The green color of the cake was very dark, but a pretty color. The icing was way too light and the wrong shade of green! After I had all the cake toppers printed and assembled, I took the cake out of the fridge, used Green Color Mist Spray to add a little extra voom-voom to the green, then applied the buttercream transfer face, then added the paper toppers! adthrive-in-post-video-player video-id=”4dTY8q3Z” upload-date=”2020-03-18T22:08:59.000Z” name=”Grinch Cake ” description=”This showstopping green Grinch cake from SugarHero.com is decorated with a perfectly Grinchy face, and conceals a wonderful secret–a red heart on the inside!” player-type=”collapse” override-embed=”false”] Bake The Red Cake: Whisk together the red velvet cake mix, eggs, oil, vanilla pudding mix, and sour cream.Pour the batter into a loaf pan (Image 1) and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 minutes. Beat the butter on a medium speed for 30 seconds with a paddle attachment, until smooth. Slowly add in the powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time. Alternate with small splashes of cream.

Size & Servings:The cake shown is 8 inches round on a 10 inch cake board. It serves up to 20 guests. It serves up to 35 guests. Other size options are available that show the servings. Finally, don’t expect perfection! The heart is a soft(ish) cake pop mixture, and you’re basically carving inside the cake on a wing and a prayer. It’s probably going to be a little wonky. But it will also be amazing, and charming, and that’s good enough!
