There could be no other entry to take up this position. The ’90s had ended and Suede’s relevance was struggling under the spectre of the new, raucous wave of guitar bands such as The Libertines and The Strokes. First, the VAT: I have to pay the UK VAT to SDE, which actually accounts for more profit to them. Then, on delivery, I'll also be charged with the Italian VAT, and the Italian VAT on the UK VAT. Not a happy customer.

The news of Suede30 follows the release of Autofiction , Suede’s brand new studio album. Debuting at No.2 in the UK Albums Chart in September 2022 and marking Suede’s highest charting LP since 1999’s Head Music , the album has been universally received as a late-career triumph. It was a genuinely magical time in my life and one for which I’ll always be grateful. It felt incredible being in what I thought was quite probably the most exciting band in the world at the time, making a record which felt like more than just another bandYou know, it slightly bothers me that I would actually get all of SDE surround discs, but there's just too big a waste of money that comes with them, what with being a non-UK buyer. Suede frontman, Brett Anderson

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of this landmark album, Demon Records and AIR Mastering proudly present this new half-speed master edition. Suede’s eponymous debut was an instant critical and commercial triumph. Adorned with the iconic image captured by American photographer Tee Corinne, it shot to No.1 in the UK Album Charts upon its release. Reflecting on the album, frontman Brett Anderson says: “It was a genuinely magical time in my life and one for which I’ll always be grateful. It felt incredible being in what I thought was quite probably the most exciting band in the world at the time, making a record which felt like more than just another band making another album.” Selling over 100,000 copies in its first week, becoming the fastest-selling debut album ever in the UK at that time, Suede also won the prestigious Mercury Music Prize.

Meanwhile, the band have recently been touring in support of their acclaimed 2022 album Autofiction. Speaking to NME last year, Anderson revealed that the band were already at work on their next album.

Claimed by Anderson to be the “first-ever record that wasn’t influenced in its making by drugs”, it took its lyrical cues from the likes of Albert Camus, Leonard Cohen and Paul Auster, giving it a lyrical density we’d never seen with Suede before. Suede 30th Anniversary has been remastered by Phil Kinrade from the original ½” tapes and production masters. Fast forward to February 1992, and the band were signed to the independent record label, Nude. Hailed by the press “as the next big thing”, they released their first single, ‘The Drowners’, in May that year. The band were fast on their way to becoming one of Britain’s best-beloved bands. For the first time on an SDE-exclusive blu-ray, bonus video is featured and this disc includes the following promo videos for all four Suede singles, remastered/restored to HD (their first –and possibly only –physical release): It was a genuinely magical time in my life and one for which I’ll always be grateful. It felt incredible being in what I thought was quite probably the most exciting band in the world at the time, making a record which felt like more than just another band making another album.”– Brett Anderson

Known for being an arty, David Bowie-esque outfit, Suede’s first two records, Suede and Dog Man Star, are hailed as classics and are often mentioned in the same breath as Pulp’s Different Class, the era’s ultimate British masterpiece. However, tensions would soon erupt within the band. Engulfed by all the trappings of stardom, excess and all, something had to give. Butler, who had become hailed as the spiritual successor to The Smiths’ guitarist Johnny Marr, departed the group in spring 1994, citing tensions between him and Anderson. The next record that we’re planning to write, and have already started, is much more experimental,” he told NME. “I don’t really know if there’s an arc with [ Autofiction]. I’m not seeing it as a selection of albums. You just have to do it one at a time, really. I do think of those three records as [being] together, especially Night Thoughts and The Blue Hour, but the next record will be completely different.” Originally released in 1993, Suede set a record for the fastest-selling debut album, won the Mercury Music Prize and peaked at number one on the UK Album Chart. It contains singles including “The Drowners”, “Animal Nitrate” and “So Young”.
