Most brow brushes come double-sided—a comb side and a brush side. You can even get customizable brow kits for any eyebrow color. You can calm even the most unwieldy brows with a duo-brow brush. First, use the comb to straighten and form your brow shape.

If you want to amp up the intensity of your blush, layering is the way to go. Start with a light application and then build up gradually until you achieve your desired level of color. You can also try layering different shades of blush to create a custom look that complements your skin tone. Next, make a pout with your face. Just under your cheekbones, use the contour brush to apply the darker tone to the hollow beneath the apples of your cheeks. An alternative use for fan brushes is to use them as an applicator for lotion, sunscreen, or concealer. It’s a gentle, soothing way to apply all manners of skincare products. Pretend you’re at a day spa, close your eyes, turn on Enya, and use the fan brush to fan away all your worries while applying your retinol cream like a real esthetician. 9. Blush BrushTip: Medium brushes are also better for applying mineral powder foundations, since they allow a bit more control than their larger counterparts but still don’t dispense as much product as a firm brush. • Fan Brush With the right brush, however, you can achieve a flawless, radiant finish that accentuates your features and complements your skin tone. Another factor to consider is the handle of the brush. Opt for a brush with a comfortable grip that feels balanced in your hand. You may also want to choose a brush with a longer handle if you have a larger face or if you prefer more distance between your hand and your face. Brush Head Size According to makeup artist Jasmin Lo, the most important feature to consider when buying a blush brush is the size and shape: “Ideally, you want a tapered blush brush that is right for the size of your face,” Lo explains, before adding, “the size is more important than the shape in my opinion, though.” It really depends what kind of blush placement you prefer and how big your cheek area is. For example, if you usually apply blush on the apple of your cheeks, you might prefer a denser, more square-shaped cheek blusher brush,” says Jesse. “For a higher, more sculpted placement, an angled blusher brush. But, as with all things makeup, the best tool for you is the one that feels right in your hand, so try a few out and see what works.” Is a contour brush the same as a blush brush?

Natural bristles are less “perfect” so can work well with pressed and loose powders, but animal welfare and moral codes come into play here. Keep in mind that these days, most synthetic bristles are designed in a way that makes them really effective across both cream and powder products, so you don’t really need to use a natural bristle if you don’t want to. For a round face: Apply blush to the apples of your cheeks and blend out towards your temples for a slimming effect. The bristles themselves tend to be straighter and firmer than the bristles of a powder brush. This kind of brush applies cream and liquid foundations beautifully, with a seamless finish and without any lines or streaks.

Your highlighter should go on the top of the apples of the cheeks and dragged up towards the temple (you can also lightly diffuse it over the center of the forehead and above the lip), blush should go slightly below the highlight on the apple of the cheeks and towards the temples, and a contour should be applied below the cheekbone from the center of the ear to just below the apple of the cheek. The next step is to blend everything together. It sounds simple but it’s actually the most difficult and critical part of making the contour look as natural as possible. For more proficient beauty lovers, an angled eye shadow brush is a perfect addition. Use it to add intense colors to the corner of your eye, for precise smudging, and to line your crease with a contrast color. 12. Eye Shadow Crease Brush If you’re layering powder blush, use a light hand and tap off any excess product before applying to avoid a heavy-handed application. Personally, I prefer a firmer contour brush, though others might prefer a firmer highlighter brush, for example. Firmer brushes also tend to work better with cream products of various types, assuming they are synthetic.
