Description

Application: Stir thoroughly before use. The product may be applied by brush or roller. If applying by brush, apply evenly, following the grain of the wood. If rollering, use a short to medium nap mohair roller. Two coats are recommended. Colour choice for specialist tile paint can be limited, with some ranges only available in neutral shades, or one or two bolder tones. If you have a specific colour in mind, you can always prime tiles with a high-quality, solvent-based primer and use a high-gloss or semi-gloss paint for the top coats. Just be aware that the surface will probably not be as durable as using a specialist tile paint. Some of the most popular colour choices at the moment are lighter hues such as cream, off-white and light grey. Choosing one of these paint colours brightens up the room and also gives the illusion of a larger space which has been known to increase property value. Preparation: Ensure surface is clean, dry and free from contamination. Use sugar soap equivalent to remove all traces of contamination, rinse surface afterwards with water. If wax or oil has previously been used on the item, clean the surface thoroughly with white spirit. If painting over a hard or glossy or previously painted surface abrade the surface before application. Neutral colours such as grey, beige and sand will fit in seamlessly with your current colour scheme and avoid any disastrous colour clashes. Dark Colours

So how do you know which tile paint is best for you? Well, this all depends on the job at hand. Our advice is to always use a paint that’s been formulated for a specific job. For example, if you’re thinking about painting your floor tiles – a paint formulated for floor tiles will be better than kitchen wall tiles.Fortunately, we’ve tried, tested and reviewed many tile paints on the market and combined that with our technical knowledge of paint systems to come up with the definitive guide for buying tile paint.

We tested it in the grey version – a medium smoky tone that provided excellent coverage after a couple of coats (as it’s a thin primer, one coat was a bit patchy). We liked its speedy drying time – around an hour before another coat – and there was no strong smell, plus we could wash brushes using soap and water. The specialist mould and water-resistant formula is perfect for steamy kitchens. Highly durable against everyday splashes and spills, this contemporary kitchen paint is available for use on glass, ceramic and stone tiles. Other factors we take into consideration during our tests include the range of colours or tinting available, the paint’s value for money – especially when assessing one-coat products and any additional properties such as mould, moisture or heat resistance. Finally, we look at whether the paint can be used on other surfaces, so leftover product can be used up elsewhere. Drying Time: Touch dry in 1 hour. Hard dry in 4 hours. May be over coated after 4 hours. Full cure achieved after 7 days – take extra care during use in this time. Dark coloured tiles aren’t the most popular choice and can be seen as a risk for some but in the right setting, dark coloured tiles can really offer a luxurious and calming look. All of our recommended specialist tile paints are tested using a small paint brush and a large, ceramic tile with a decorative glaze. Each coat of paint is allowed to dry for the recommended time, with a second coat applied if directed. One-coat products are left as a single coat to assess their claims of effectiveness. Highly concentrated for an exceptional depth of colour, transform hexagon, subway and diamond tiles with an immaculate matt finish. With no primer needed and a fast-drying time, updating your kitchen tiles has never been easier. With that being said, some tile paints are better than others so our advice would always be to buy the paint you need for your specific job. Tile Paint Colours Guide

This particular tile paint is one of the toughest and most durable on the market and is ideal for use in either the bathroom or kitchen. When compared to Dulux’s conventional water-based satin paints, it’s roughly 10x stronger which should give you a good idea as to how strong it is! If you were to apply a paint meant for walls then you’d have a problem as it isn’t formulated for use on ceramics meaning it wouldn’t have the same durability as tile paint. Clean Up: Remove as much product as possible from application equipment before washing with water. Do not empty into drains or water courses. Some local authorities have special facilities for the disposal of waste coatings. Coverage: Up to 14m2/ litre per coat. Coverage may vary depending upon method and rate of application and porosity of surface. If you want to bring a touch of colour to your old bathroom tiles then Rust-Oleum is the choice for you. It’s durable, easy to apply and looks great once set. READ NEXT: Ready for a complete upgrade? Find the best bathroom tiles for you How much should I spend on paint for tiles? Preparation: For best results, ensure surface is thoroughly clean and free from contamination. Use sugar soap equivalent to remove all traces of contamination, rinse surface afterwards with water. Make good any repairs to failing grouting. Around sinks or wet areas it is advisable to apply the Bathroom Tile Paint first then apply silicone sealer over the paint where necessary (eg. between wall tiles and sink top). The paint went on easily and, although we needed two coats to cover the pattern on our tiles, dried to a pleasantly glossy finish. The smell was noticeable, but not strong, and the surface was touch-dry in around four hours.

If the tiles in your home are looking a bit worn out, you might be thinking about replacing them. Hold your horses though. Using the best tile paint can save you lots of time and effort by refreshing the look and feel of your tiles without having to replace them. This particular paint has great adhesion, can be applied thinly and is also resistant to impacts or abrasions. It also comes in a host of different colours (around 30 in total) and so allows you to get the finish you desire.Lighter colours are more prone to showing marks, dirt and dust but to us this isn’t necessarily a bad thing as it will help you keep your kitchen or bathroom clean. Neutral Colours If you can’t decide what looks better with your current colour scheme, choosing something neutral might be a good idea. Coverage: Up to 14m²/ litre per coat. Coverage may vary depending upon method and rate of application and porosity of surface. Want your tiles to look clean and gleaming? Use Rust-Oleum Kitchen Tile Paint and add a splash of personality to your kitchen walls However, if you choose the wrong paint system, you could end up with a finished product that is bubbly, full of streaks and poor coverage.
