When we die our atoms will disassemble and move off to find new uses elsewhere—as part of a leaf or other human being or drop of dew. Zo kun je er bijvoorbeeld achterkomen dat de opa van Darwin Josiah Wedgwood was van het bekende servies bedrijf Wedgwood.

In it, he explores time from the Big Bang to the discovery of quantum mechanics, via evolution and geology. It was one of the bestselling popular science books of 2005 in the United Kingdom, selling over 300,000 copies. He also describes some of the most recent destructive disasters of volcanic origin in the history of our planet, including Krakatoa and Yellowstone National Park. I can't say I understand everything perfectly, but Bryson explains it all well enough and it's never tedious. I love this kids' version of the book--it covers most of what we teach in sixth grade social studies and science all in one book!

I was amused to find this "really short" version of it, and it's super-super-abridged (I mean, the original is 500+ pages and this one is less than 200 and with pictures) but it's still packed with lots of useful and interesting information and it really does cover nearly everything, from the beginning of the universe up until what we're doing to our planet now, it's a hell of a ride. Inside it explains prehistoric animals, measuring Earth, the Earth’s age, supernovae, many famous scientists.

Other travel books include the massive bestseller Notes From a Small Island, which won the 2003 World Book Day National Poll to find the book which best represented modern England, followed by A Walk in the Woods (in which Stephen Katz, his travel companion from Neither Here Nor There, made a welcome reappearance), Notes From a Big Country and Down Under. Nos da diferentes teorías sobre el nacimiento del Universo, sobre los grandes descubrimientos en física, química, biología, paleontología y mucho más.His new book The Body: A Guide for Occupants was shortlisted for the Royal Society Science Book Prize and is an international bestseller. Uncover the mysteries of time, space and life on earth in this extraordinary book – a journey from the centre of the planet, to the dawn of the dinosaurs, and everything in between. Bill Bryson's "A Short History of Nearly Everything" seemed perfect, but when I started reading that, it soon turned out it wasn't quite simple enough for my poor little brain.

The personages have to be historical, apparently, as it takes the atoms some decades to become thoroughly redistributed; however much you may wish it, you are not yet one with Elvis Presley. Some parts were completely beyond them; the structure of DNA and the basics of genetics were a real struggle; I would have been better skimming over that section. A Short History of Nearly Everything by American-British author Bill Bryson is a popular science book that explains some areas of science, using easily accessible language that appeals more to the general public than many other books dedicated to the subject. But while he worked on the BIG picture, it is the small stuff that really makes me, and should make us wonder. He then explores the history of geology and biology and traces life from its first appearance to today's modern humans, emphasizing the development of the modern Homo sapiens. As an abridged version intended for younger readers, this volume might be helpful to middle school science teachers for creating curriculum. I remember devouring it and becoming fascinated by all the wonders of life that have been discovered through the years. And discover our own incredible journey, from single cell to civilisation, including the brilliant (and sometimes very bizarre) scientists who helped us find out the how and why.

It's a bunch of short writings on different topics (how the universe formed, how we know the weight of the earth, etc. So when the YA version caught my eye, I jumped to the chance to learn stuff about nearly everything again. Bill Bryson’s own fascination with science began with a battered old school book he had when he was about ten or eleven years old. The book received generally favourable reviews, with reviewers citing the book as informative, well-written, and entertaining.Rather, space curves in a way which allows it to have no actual edge or boundary, but at the same time allows it to be finite” Words do that as they can bring us to places that we can’t imagine imagining.
