The team sits down with Kevin ahead of his busy schedule, for an exclusive first interview on what his future looks like and if he will continue his fund raising efforts for MND. My Name'5 Doddie Foundation which funds research into the causes of MND and potential treatments while also supporting families affected by MND. During that time he made 521 appearances for the Rhinos, scoring 3,967 points. He led the team to seven Grand Final victories, two Challenge Cup wins and three World Club Challenge wins. He holds the Super League record for the most appearances and points. It has led to an award-winning documentary and best-selling autobiography but Burrow’s greatest achievement and latest goal is to realise the dream of a new MND Care Centre in Leeds, that will bear his name. Kevin Sinfield was a fan favourite and rugby league superstar who switched codes to become a successful union coach for the Leicester Tigers and England. He was and is close friends with Rob Burrow from their time together at Leeds Rhinos to the present day and through that friendship has become recognised for far more than his sporting career.

He is the third highest points scorer in the history of Rugby League (behind only Neil Fox and Jim Sullivan). The Darby Rimmer MND Foundation which funds and assists research into the disease and is creating a network to help provide support for people diagnosed with MND. Rugby League legend and Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association patron Kevin Sinfield OBE is set to pull on his running trainers again for a new epic challenge to raise awareness and funds to support those affected by MND. But his career on the pitch is only part of the story. Alongside Sinfield was a small but indomitable scrum-half, Rob Burrow. As Rob's health has tragically declined in recent years due to Motor neurone disease (MND), Sinfield has set himself a series of extraordinary endurance challenges, including running seven ultra marathons in seven days and over 100 miles in a single day, that have raised awareness and millions of pounds for the cause of MND. In the process, Sinfield has won the hearts of a nation and an OBE from the Queen. The Extra Mile" takes us through Sinfield's journey from his humble beginnings to becoming a celebrated sports figure. It shows us how he pushed himself beyond his limits and never gave up.

Multibuys

Donations will be split equally between the Leeds Hospitals Charity appeal to build the Rob Burrow Centre for MND supporting people living with MND and their families, and the MND Association which funds multi-disciplinary care delivered at the Centre and others across the country, as well as research into potential treatments for the disease. That something was three body-sapping long distance endurance events which would have broken a lesser competitive spirit. With friends, family, the MND community, and BBC Breakfast following his every step, Kevin set goals, targets, and standards for what he expected from those around him and smashed them all. His aim was to provide a future for Rob's family and make governments and the money men be held accountable for broken promises and deafening silences. As the charity of Leeds Teaching Hospitals, we provide support for eight areas which include Leeds General Infirmary, Leeds Children’s Hospital, Leeds Cancer Centre, St James’s University Hospital, Chapel Allerton Hospital, Seacroft Hospital, Wharfdale Hospital and Leeds Dental Institute. His rise as a coach, albeit in rugby union, has been probably even more impressive than his playing career. Kevin Sinfield I am proud to be part of the MND community, the people who are living with the impact of MND who I have been privileged to meet since 2020 inspire me every day and we will never stop banging the drum for MND until we find a cure." — Kevin Sinfield

The Extra Mile is no ordinary sports memoir. But Kevin Sinfield is no ordinary sportsman. A one-club legend of Leeds Rhinos, who has now crossed codes as a defence coach for the England national rugby union team, Kevin Sinfield is a rugby icon. But in recent years has shown heroism of a very different kind through his selfless and extraordinary fundraising for motor neurone disease (MND), the terminal illness that has affected his best mate and former teammate Rob Burrow. The BBC Breakfast team has been following Kevin since day one, and this documentary will show never seen before footage of each of his challenges, and an exclusive first chat with him after getting his new role in the England coaching team, as well as more intimate moments with his friends, family and hundreds of supporters as he runs through towns and cities across the UK. The programme also features some of the people living with MND who have been helped and supported by his work. The documentary also highlights his extraordinary dedication to help those affected by MND, and offers an insight into how this journey has changed him personally too.

This year he’s been thrown further into the spotlight as he’s been named the defence coach of England’s Rugby Union team ahead of the World Cup and Six Nations championships. Rugby league's head injury issue - why Leeds Rhinos great Keith Senior isn't comfortable with legal claim He made his professional debut for Leeds at 16 years of age, he became the club captain at the age of 22 and he held that position for thirteen seasons until he retired triumphant after leading the Rhinos to Grand Final glory in 2015 at the age of 35. It was a wonderful playing career and since his retirement he has dabbled with playing rugby union with Yorkshire Carnegie for a season, worked as a director of rugby for both the RFL and Leeds Rhinos, coached Leicester Tigers as their defence coach and, currently, he has become an assistant coach for the England Rugby Union team. What he and a small group of friends, along with the wider sporting family, did has changed the landscape for this awful disease. So far he has raised over seven million pounds, ensuring his friend's family will be taken care of as well as enabling scientists to begin serious research into finding a cure and improving the quality of life for many others.
