Description

Wool Compost component bracken gives this growing medium a high level of natural potash, essential for fruiting and flowering.

Sheep’s wool has a high level of nitrogen that works as a slow release fertiliser and has good water retention. The feel of the compost felt strange to me and I was very unsure how all this was going to work – sheeps’ wool and bracken seemed to me to be a rather strange combination to put on my flower beds! Our new Dalefoot Compost is some of the highest quality compost you will find for making soil blends, starting off seedlings or top dressing beds or containers. No extra feeding of fertilisers needed as the compost contains all the nutrients needed for the entire growing season. Please visit our garden centre in Rutland where our friendly and knowledgeable staff is ready to help you.

Dalefoot Composts are a unique range of environmentally friendly peat free composts produced in the Lake District. Social Association approved – the compost is sustainably made from renewable, natural ingredients on Dalefoot Farm in the Lake District and is approved for organic growing by the Soil Association. On the market today no other growing media has such a naturally high concentration of nutrients, for improving plant size and quality.

Peat, as defined by the International Peatland Society, is “Peat is the surface organic layer of a soil that consists of partially decomposed organic matter, derived mostly from plant material, which has accumulated under conditions of waterlogging, oxygen deficiency, high acidity and nutrient deficiency”. Contains wool – like some of our other gardening products such as our garden felt and shillies, this compost contains WOOL! Traditionally, here in the Lake District, bracken has been used as an animal winter bedding material, which was then spread on the land in Spring to fertilise the fields. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.
