Description

The colour monster, at first, has no way of organising his thinking or feelings and it takes a wiser, more reflective hand, to sort them out and guide him through them.

It compares anger to a fire you might want to stomp out, sadness to a rainy day, and calm like leaves swaying in the wind. Right now they just appear as pictures of each page and the monster is on the top half of one page, while the jars are on the bottom half of the same page. I love this book It was on a list of suggested books when I was taking my early childhood education classes. Are some feelings darker (like pressed down harder when drawing) and what feeling are more prevalent?I think it's great to teach feeling identification, but odd to tell kids how to feel about certain colors. Let me know what else you are looking for and I might be able to brainstorm a solution to your problem!

Also, an original with the "How are you feeling today" so our students can glue the monster onto and the original "My Feelings Jars" sheet that our students can glue the bottles onto. I liked this story because it shows the different emotions someone can feel and how to sort them to not bundle them all up together.Pero un día, decidió dejar el mundo de la publicidad para emprender un rumbo propio, más artístico y personal. One of my favorite things to tell young people is that f eelings aren’t good or bad– they are just our bodies way of letting us know what is going on in the world around us! I think what she means is the original copy of the monster and bottles that our clients/students can cut out themselves and create on their own. Now that the children know what Monsters eat, are they brave enough to take the ‘Monster Eat the Rainbow Challenge’? Lo recomiendo académicamente y también, cuando no se sepa explicar el peso de las emociones, lo importante del autoconocimiento y el estar cercanos con nuestro interior.

For a lot of the littles (and teens too) that we work with there can be a lot of judgement that comes with anger and a portion of the therapeutic work can go towards decreasing shame about this real, normal, human emotion. While it is vital to teach children to identify their emotions, it is just as important to help them understand that it is normal to feel more than one single emotion at a time, even about the same thing/person/idea. However, I wonder how useful this colour allocation is, as some children might have a favourite colour associated with a negative emotion. I give child therapists the resources, tools, and skills they need to be effective and confidentin their practice!

It is a truly fabulous way of encouraging children to acknowledge their emotions, alongside explaining feelings they may or may not have already experienced. Maybe they could take pictures of what they are eating and make a Rainbow Food Diary to share with everyone.Yet, as the girl, as narrator, guides us through Llenas' wonderful mixed media pop-up collages, we find ourselves using both pictures and words to understand these complex emotions.
