Description

Also known as plata or silver, blanco Tequilas tell the story of their origins – in terms of the agave and the production methods used – with no oak to cover any faults. This has been the home of Guillermo Sauza’s family and their distilleries for more than five generations, where they have meticulously perfected their craft since 1873. uk accepts no liability for inaccuracies or misstatements about products by manufacturers or other third parties.

The bottles are also produced individually according to a 150-year-old tradition, making each one different from the others. The agave is then rinsed to separate the pulp from the fibres, producing the sweet agave nectar known as mosto. Determined to revive his family’s iconic distillery, in 2002 Guillermo Sauza reignited the 100-year-old boiler of ‘La Fortaleza’ for the first time in decades.

Gradually, the small distillery became better known until it finally grew into a large empire and sold its products internationally. The history of Tequila Fortaleza Blanco dates back to 1873, when it all began with a small distillery in Mexico known as Sauza Tequila. In 1999, Don Guillermo began the process of restoring his family’s old distillery, Destileria La Fortaleza, which was retired in 1968 in favor of more ‘efficient’ facilities.Urban Bar take our design rights and intellectual property very seriously, we do not create items for others to copy. Their traditional brick oven with its metre-thick walls, has a 15-ton capacity, and it takes around 4 hours to load the agave piñas by hand.

First tried this over ice in a little tequila bar in Crete, has been my goto ever since, just perfect. As for the liquid within, expect a honey/caramel start and viscous mouthfeel, notes of cinnamon, just skirting a faint bitterness into a peppery finish, all unified by a tinge of witch hazel and funk. Fortaleza’s signature Blanco is made with 100% stone crushed Blue Weber agave, and double-distilled for an extra smooth finish in this deceptively complex, yet easy to drink tequila.

After several years of renovations and hard work, Don Guillermo got the distillery up and running again, making Tequila in the same way it was made over 100 years ago.
