I have e-mailed Castrol to ask whether or not the sweet smelling oil 'Castrol R' can still be purchased and be used in modern bikes, I have pasted their reply below. I've seen this A747 advertised so will get round to trying it after my present experiment, but what's Maxima 927? A castor based lubricant which is primarily designed for the racing world; however its unique properties can also benefit private owners interested in high performance.

What he did, was add a cap full of castor oil which he bought from the local chemist to the fuel cell (tank). Which when combined with a standard air cooled engine like what we have on a SOHC Bike, wouldn't there be piston seizures? Its superior oiliness over mineral oils, imparted by the chemical structure of its components, gives it a great affinity for hot surfaces and provides excellent load-carrying properties which is an important consideration with highly stressed engines running at peak revolutions. Charles Wakefield wasn’t slow to realise that here lay both an important new market for lubricating oils and, just as significantly, a whole new marketing opportunity also. A high performance castor based engine oil with distinctive Castrol 'R' aroma suitable for 4 stroke engines. With over 115 years of experience in providing top quality products, Castrol is today the world's largest specialist in lubricants, process fluids and maintenance fluids. I would suggest if you get as far as 100:1 (200ml of oil in a 20 litre fuel tank) and still aren’t getting the effect you want, you might want to re-consider the benefits versus the downsides! As every cook knows, fats and oils thicken when you put them in the fridge and leave gummy, varnish-like deposits when you heat them in a pan. What I would like to know is if anyone has added it to their petrol without any problems and if so what ratio they used, thanks, Joe. uk/itm/Castrol-POWER1-R-40-SAE-40-Castor-Based-Racing-Motorcycle-Engine-Oil-1-Litre-1L/162764390339?

strokes are on my good riddance list along with ignition points, adjusting spokes and tubes in tyres. There are various trains of thought as to which is the better of the two methods, in race engines castor based oils are frequently used as castor oils provide higher lubricity than mineral oils however castor based oils require more engine maintenance to prevent rings gumming up and deposits forming inside the engine. Primarily designed for the racing world; however it's unique properties also benefit private owners interested in high performance. OK, this might be a little out there, but av started using are lass 200EXC "as am saving for my 300EXC" but i wont the Castrol R smell coming from the sweet little 2 stroke, the smell reminds me and takes me back to race tracks with my old man as a kid.I now run it religiously in my rally car and it gives steadier pressure than the Millers CTV I ran before it. I thought to myself I have to run some Castrol R in this bike to see how it performs so I set out to find some. For the younger readers, a failed bowel blood test (see black shit above) results in a summons for a colonoscopy.

Fatty acids are polarised molecules comprising an oily, hydrophobic (water-hating) head and a hydrophilic (water-loving) tail; the hydrophilic ends of castor oil molecules are adsorbed to the metal surface, leaving the oily heads protruding. Fortunately it was a company car at the time and I left my boss to deal with it whilst I was on holiday. If the best possible performance coupled with reliability is the aim then the remarkable stamina and great film strength of Castrol R40 will provide a valuable margin of safety at ultra high engine speeds and temperatures. Overall, it sounds like it may cause trouble, so maybe stick to 2T and just put a bit of castor oil in the lawnmower.Always amuses me that people 'put a bit in' their tanks, lowering the fuel content in the fuel air mix. If you want to smell the 'perfume' of burnt castor oil, put a very small amount (max 10 cc) of castor oil in a 5 litre container of petrol, shake it thoroughly and add it to your petrol tank, then fill the tank with petrol. Castrol R 40 is a very good lubricant under certain circumstances, however it is relatively unstable and will therefore tend to promote the build up of deposits in your engine.

Ahhh yessss, brings back fond memories, ran many a moto cross bike on good old Castrol R, always had to give the bike a bloody good shake just to mix the fuel and oil together before trying to start them otherwise the oil used to settle in the bottom of the tank and the float bowls and would be a complete nightmare to start. Hope the pic ain't too small to see but this is the extent of carbon build up after running the engine for years on a mixture of Castrol R40, plain modern mineral, part-synth, fully-synth, and sometimes a mixture of one, or more than one other of the aforementioned. I use Castrol R40 all the time and with regard to settling in the petrol tank I think there may be something in it.But where the oil layer is thin — on cylinder walls and cam lobes, for instance — it ensures a higher level of scuff resistance.
