Okay, how about fantastic, original, engaging, wondrous, amusing, exciting, arousing, and intellectually stimulating.

This will often give the students a head-start in the lesson when encountering new information, but also shows them that it is interesting and valuable to study the topic or person because so many other people have cared enough to produce materials on them. Not all of the characters in this book are heroes, and not all of them are feel good stories, which makes this collection the most human trans book I’ve read in some time. Science fiction and fantasy seemed a good way to do more explicitly polemical work without being boring. When used with “than” or “but”: In some cases, “elsewhere” can be used with “than” or “but” to indicate a preference for something other than the current situation. Were many of the contributors to Meanwhile, Elsewhere new to writing science fiction and/or fantasy? A few recurrent themes (commodification of the body, for instance) crop up, I assume independently, although some of the authors may know each other, not sure.

Plett: If you have a three-dimensional, complicated, multifaceted, interesting, weird, nuanced character, it doesn’t matter if some of her nuances also fall into stereotypes. Like Octavia’s Brood: Science Fiction Stories from Social Justice Movements — the obvious closest comparison — Meanwhile, Elsewhere reveals how much speculative fiction can achieve when it isn’t dominated by the same (cis, white, male) voices. With Meanwhile, Elsewhere being such a wonderfully chunky publication (twenty-five tales) there’s something for everybody. Flipping through the pages reminded me of the short story collections we would read in high school english (usually titled like MOMENTS or something), but like way cooler 😎. Ayse Devrim's story "No Comment" about a Muslim trans neo-vaginal-virgin named Maryam whose new womb, transferred from a corpse, is already pregnant with the living and immaculately conceived child which had previously been in the body of a white midwestern bride.

Remember to pay attention to the context of the sentence and use the word that makes the most sense. One final word of caution: lots of homework is ‘finishing off’, but only set this if it is acceptable that part of the work was completed in different conditions. The first story is erotica, which is not my bag, but the second story- Delicate Bodies by Bridget Liang- made me put the book down and ask if I wanted to read a collection edited by people that would include a story like this.
