Leif is clearly not as enthusiastic about estuarine plants, so either this chapter needed more effort on his part to learn more, or it should have been excluded.

Famously bright blue and surprisingly tall, this is another cornfield exile more commonly seen nowadays as a garden annual Leif writes with an easy, readable style that draws one in to share his adventures over the year, which are presented with a month-by-month approach to exploring corners of the British and Irish islands. I found myself reading the book with Streeter's guide to hand, so I could look up some of the plants that I was unfamiliar with - and I'd recommend this approach. Each chapter also introduces local experts or enthusiasts who facilitate Leif's explorations, and where available, useful social media links are provided for them. Dalton, who as a thirteen year old boy believed a few lies, doing what he had to, to protect his sister. His sense of understanding had lead him on several wrong paths, but at the end he turned out to be a well adjusted man. These struggles continued throughout his adult life, where he became a Priest and teacher. Conscious that facts are only half the story, the emotional part of the book varies from overly reserved when it comes to his relationships with people to overly exuberant when it comes to his relationship with plants. It's as if all of his buttoned up Englishness just can't wait to burst free into this eccentric, joyful and endearing pastime.Big blue, white or violet flowers on a handsome plant, one of the signatures of midsummer in limestone grassland and verges I really liked this, not only is he really knowledgeable, but what comes across is his enthusiasm. It is infectious to reading this makes me want to go and discover what is out in my local patch! He is utterly besotted by plants and this is evident in his prose and the pictures included in his book of him, especially when he gets to hold a bladderwort. The little clumps of bacon-and-eggs in rough limestone pasture are a sign that other floral beauties are nearby Among the marshes and riversides, look out for this quietly elegant plant with its hanging bells of maroon and yellow

This was on of the best books I have read for 2014. I struggled to put it down. This books complexities and many layers kept me at all hours. With fascinating characters that touch the heart, you could experience their struggles and confusion during a time that it was unacceptable to be yourself. Believable, I could connect with every character in this book. Written from all their points of views you learned firsthand their troubles and reasoning when making decisions that would alter their futures. Leif, in his very English, self conscious, slightly bonkers way, gets face to face with the miniature intricacies of wildflowers. Where the Wild Flowers Grow" by Leif Brsweden is a mesmerizing journey through the lush landscapes of British and Irish wildflowers, awakening a longing within me for the countryside and a desire to embark on similar explorations.Leif Bersweden has been fascinated by wild plants for as long as he can remember. As a child, he would spend his afternoons collecting the various leaves and flowers that he found. Being given a digital camera meant that he could collect a digital record and he would then fill notebooks with his findings. Ryan was constantly one that was searching for more and more. He seemed that he was never satisfied with anything including his marriage. He has many times where he makes mistakes, but this let’s the reader know that he is struggling to eventually find what makes him happy. Growing from a man who was at first very centered around himself to a person that cares a lot about people around him. One thing I truly enjoyed was that he became a better father figure as he got older compared to when he was younger. It’s nice to see people learn from what they were doing wrong and change those things to make an ultimately better life for themselves and everyone around them.

The only specification for planting wildflowers is that the area needs to be open and sunny. If your planting area is shaded then you should look at planting woodland wildflowers as they will be more likely to thrive. On the way he cycles or takes the train to meet up with botanists and conservationists. They reflect on the many other benefits of plant hunting, as well as the sad decline of great swathes of natural habitat. There is a lot of sex (but not overly graphic) in this book, but surprisingly, it didn't bother me! It just felt like it needed to be there. This is such a sad, and in a way, disturbing story. Its a story of sex, lies, and murder in the 1960's (which is when I was born, BTW). Mary Keen agreed, saying that ‘bee orchids on chalky downs with skylarks singing overhead never fail to give me a lurch of pleasure.’ I think this will be a story that I can reread again and again because of the fluidity of the writing and the overall storyline. You learn a lot about the prejudice that happened years ago and how the characters learn to evolve through all of it throughout their lives into adulthood. If I could give this book more than five stars than I would and I can not wait to start in on another Vera Jane Cook novel that I am sure will delight me just as much as these last two have! Then there is a deputy who finds out about many of those secrets but they are never revealed by him. I have to say this book read at a good pace. I really didn't like the characters but I was invested in finding out where the story will lead and come together in the end. If you have ever read Peyton Place and enjoyed it, you will find this book enjoyable too. Leif Bersweden is a writer, botanist and science communicator with a lifelong interest in nature. He grew up in rural Wiltshire where he taught himself how to identify the local flora.
