She loved being with me and followed me everywhere, and I protected her and was always on alert to hear if anyone had mistreated her. Shekila and I used to sleep in the same bed, and when we woke I would fetch her whatever breakfast I could find. I can honestly say that i have really enjoyed every novel but the stand out one for me is When The Lion Feeds.

The Venetian Lion Explained | When in Venice The Venetian Lion Explained | When in Venice

It arrived in Venice from Constantinople or another Middle Eastern region, and has stood on the column since the 12th century. What I liked the most was the Moral behind the Story: 'Even the smallest creature (like mouse) can have the heart of a lion' - the courageous mouse set himself off to meet the Lion hoping to win the Lion's heart rather than being his dinner, which eventually happens at the end of the Story. Twenty years later, Saroo, now a young man, moves to Melbourne to study hotel management and starts a relationship with American student Lucy.

But my skin colour would always have given away my origins, and anyway, she and my father chose to adopt a child from India for a reason. They are inseparable until Bertie is sent to boarding school far away in England and the lion is sold to a circus. And to some degree I also wasn’t aware of how unusual my story was – it was upsetting to me, but I thought it was just the kind of thing that happened to people. It was early evening – if I went with him, there was little likelihood of him getting me back home that night. But he doesn’t: he is Jesus, if Narnia existed and a deity decided to walk among the people of that world.

Before he leaves South Africa, Bertie promises, that one day, no matter what it takes, he will find his lion again. One day, while they are out hunting the White Stag (which, when caught, can grant wishes), they ride to the lamppost where Lucy first met Mr Tumnus: the location of the portal leading to and from their (and our) world.A simple yet full of creative illustrations, Rachel Bright’s this book has great message behind and is fun to read. I looked into a different carriage and found no-one, but the empty wooden bench seats were more comfortable and felt safer than the quiet station – Guddu would come and get me soon, smiling, perhaps with a treat he’d found while cleaning. Noting that he wept "unstoppably" while viewing the film, Rushdie said that he is "frequently suspicious of Western films set in contemporary India, and so one of the things that most impressed me about Lion was the authenticity and truth and unsparing realism of its Indian first half. She also knew an Indian couple in the neighbourhood, Saleen and Jacob, and we would visit them regularly to eat Indian food together. The four Pevensie children have grown into young adults, and have been Kings and Queens of Narnia (reigning jointly) for many years.

Part of the reason for the novel’s broader appeal, even in an increasingly secular age, is that it provides escapism and wish-fulfilment aplenty. This rejection, however, became a positive element for the artistic development of the author: in fact, he decides to focus first and foremost on what he loves, the fantastic African landscapes, the people who lived there, the African history and the wild flora and fauna of the continent. Sometimes, a different phrase is written in the book: for example, the paintings of lions displayed in some government offices contained credos specific to the work of the magistrates there. So if I wanted a kite, I’d try to spot one stuck in a tree and climb up and get it, no matter how dangerous it was. Pigs slept in families, huddled together on a street corner at night, and in the day they would be gone, foraging for whatever they could find.Unfortunately, there were also lots of dogs, which scared me – some were friendly, but many were unpredictable or vicious. Brian Truitt of USA Today wrote: "The finale is manipulative in every way, squeezing out the emotions of the audience. An advertisement about Saroo is placed in several local newspapers, but no one responds, though an Australian couple has become interested in adopting him. I was going off with Guddu without a plan for when we were coming home or where we might sleep, just like he did with Kallu. And when, one morning, he sees a baby lion cub trying to escape from some hungry hyenas, Bertie rushes out to rescue it.
