Description

Emmanuelle In Soho prologue (elements from Mary Millington s True Blue Confessions were re-edited to create this prologue for 1981 s Emmanuelle in Soho) Her most famous film was Come Play With Me - almost a film genre all to itself! In a nutshell, the plot follows a couple of banknote forgers who are on the run. Hiding out at a stately home being run as a health farm, they find it is almost entirely staffed by sexy young women. There's an unexpected song and dance routine in the middle of the film, plus some fairly explicit sex scenes - certainly a world away from the likes of Carry On Camping! Disc Four – Queen of the Blues (1979) / Mary Millington’s True Blue Confessions (1980) / Mary Millington’s World Striptease Extrazaganza (1981) Filmed over four weeks in the winter of 1977, The Playbirds was the official follow-up to Come Play with Me, which also starred Mary Millington. [1] In The Playbirds, Millington plays an undercover policewoman investigating the murders of models from David Sullivan's magazine Playbirds. The title sequence shows Millington walking through Soho when it was at the height of its domination by the sex industry, giving a visual record of the district's history. [3] Millington collaborated with director Willy Roe on two further sexploitation pictures, Confessions from the David Galaxy Affair and Queen of the Blues, both released theatrically in the summer of 1979. If that sounds tonally all over the shop, The Playbirds just about holds it together through sheer chutzpah. Imagine, if you will, The Sweeney as directed by Pete Walker or Derek Ford, with just a tang of giallo as detective Gavin Campbell (Yes, that’s right – one of ‘Esther’s boys’ from That’s Life) races in hot pursuit of the mystery assailant, not to mention the film’s downbeat ending. Released to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Mary Millington’s death, this special edition Blu-ray box set (limited to 3,000 units) features Mary’s most glamorous film roles, with new, stunning 2K restorations, including: Come Play with Me (1977), The Playbirds (1978), Confessions from the David Galaxy Affair (1979), Queen of the Blues (1979), Mary Millington’s True Blue Confessions (1980) plus Respectable: The Mary Millington Story (2015), an in-depth documentary chronicling her extraordinary life. The Mary Millington Movie Collection Blu-ray delivers great video and audio in this fan-pleasing Blu-ray release Respectable: The Mary Millington Story audio commentary by director Simon Sheridan and the BFI’s Sam Dunn.

Things take a dramatic upswing quality-wise in the second film in this collection, 1978’s The Playbirds, which sees Millington receiving a larger slice of the action here. Never the world’s greatest actress, Mary is perfectly cast as the prim and proper policewoman who goes at it with both barrels when chosen to go undercover as a newbie model as part of a police investigation into a series of murders of glamour models, with the prime suspect being self-styled stud and hardman Harry Dougan, played by Alan Lake. It’s notable that the more layers of clothes Mary sheds, the more comfortable she appears before the camera , appropriate for her skill set. Mary on Location (new Then and Now travelogue revisiting the main locations in Mary s life and films, narrated by actress Judy Matheson)Aural Sex (Mary Millington s archive voice recording; with a new introduction by adult actress Clyda Rosen) It should be noted that Screenbound has avoided using any “hardcore” adult material in these special features.
