Description

Instead of an aluminum threaded housing we use a steel housing that meets original glow plug specifications. This means you are less likely to cross thread the reamer and the threads hold up better because they are steel. And with our different Glow Plugs come different Installation steps to follow. See below for our dedicated installation procedures. Under no circumstances should you continue turning – the glow plug might otherwise break off. Instead, proceed according to the 3-point program: "Slightly loosen – Warm up – Unscrew": Unscrew: Then try to unscrew it once again and carefully loosen the glow plug out of the cylinder head with a suitable tool. (Do not exceed the maximum loosening torque. Always stop before reaching the tightening torque, if necessary try once again by heating up.) Money Saving Kits available with glow plugs included: We also offer a number of service kits that include this reamer and a set of glow plugs for your specific engine. Enter "Reamer" in the search box for all kits containing the reamer and plugs.

If the fuel system has been opened, also pay attention to cleanliness and seal the cables with a cap, if possible. Carbon can be the root cause of a problem, acting as a heat soak, causing hard starting and premature heating coil failure. A proprietary glow plug reamer set should be used with silicone free grease to remove the carbon (Fig 3). A melted or broken heater tube tip is a sign of over voltage (fault with the control system), or abnormal combustion (this can be the result of incorrect injection timing, flow rate or excessive lubricating oil entering the combustion chamber). A swollen heater tube tip can also be a sign of over voltage. Reading other posts on the subject made me buy the Vibro Impact tool (actually bought the full extractor kit as well just in case) and the Kroil penetration oil. The most challenging of the whole job was to get the oil separator out If you have to use a bicep-building level of force to remove a glow plug they might either be damaged or have been in the car for too long. I'm pretty convinced my clutch is on its last legs so that's the next job so hopefully this will have time to penetrate. Large DHL delivery from AF arrives tomorrow! Before I leave for the airport, hopefully!I fully changed 3 (disappointing tbh but I had a time constraint) I will return for the other 3 after my trip to the mountains in a week. 2 are 50-75% out and the 3rd is 10% out. Rails still connect. For those of you that consider changing glow plugs on the Tdv6 engine - I just did mine and here's in brief how to: Installation and removal only with the appropriate custom tool. Push the tool onto the Integrated Pressure Sensor Glow Plug so that the glow plug‘s hexagon head is completely covered; note the torque.

Closely examine the glow plug and heater tube surface. A slightly ‘shiny’ appearance indicates the heater tube has been caked by carbon and ‘scuff/swirl’ marks are where the plug has been unscrewed through the carbon. The controller uses this information to adjust the current on-board voltage to the glow plugs, optimising engine operation. It requests vital information from the ECU, including glow requests, engine speed, coolant temperature and the amount of injected fuel to an exact desired glow plug voltage. The Glow Plug Control Unit then uses this information to adjust the current on-board voltage to this value, optimising engine operation. When screwing in new glow plugs, the tightening torque stated by the vehicle manufacturer must be observed at all times and performed with the appropriate reamer. Did you run injector cleaner or 2 stroke before hand to try to decoke the glow plugs and make them easier to get out. MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange This is a b d of a job but take the right steps and it is doable. Allow for 10 hours in the workshop with access to an airline (FYI I had to swap the connector on mine to work at this self-service garage so consider this). Believe it of not you will find there is a "sweet spot" or angle and pressure to get any given plug out with the impact tool. Seek out this sweet spot!
