This is really a serialized novella which has me wishing wholeheartedly that the book this is no doubt releasing to entice us to, ONCE UPON A TOWER, most cruelly not due out until the end of May (Argh)!I thought the first part of the story was absolutely beautifully done – I had a lump in my throat at times because I felt so strongly for Grace and her disappointment in discovering that the man she’d fallen in love with didn’t want her; it was absolutely the best thing about the story.

I found this very slow paced going in and just not really gripped into the story, I found myself getting into the book more near the end, but I think the overall concept of the book was just not for me. The characters were all well developed, and even though the span of many years are covered in this section of the story, it never felt rushed, or as though important events had been glossed over. Eloisa James gives us a delightful story of about the children of two pirate best friends and how history seems destined to repeat itself. Maybe I was not on a good day, I have those as imagine does everyone, and I needed it to have ended in a more upward tone. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if they were just characters without need for explanations and admonishments, especially as this felt more of a YA read and they are a pretty clued up generation.
