Gundersen, Edna (May 15, 2001). "They're just the right Tool for the thinking headbangers". USA Today. I think there are a lot of other industries out there that might deserve being destroyed. The ones who get hurt by MP3s are not so much companies or the business, but the artists, people who are trying to write songs. [9] Brummagem Joe, a cove ["fellow" or "dude," if you will] as could patter or pitch the fork with anyone." a b Akhtar, Kabir. "Old News. January— March 2001". toolshed.down.net. The insert is translucent and flips open to reveal the different layers of the human body. Disguised in the brain matter on the final layer is the word " God". The artwork was done by artist Alex Grey, who would later design the 3D edition cover for the followup to Lateralus, 10,000 Days. All lyrics are written by Maynard James Keenan; all music is composed by Adam Jones, Danny Carey, Maynard James Keenan, and Justin Chancellor No. The first song is called "The Grudge," and it's about astrology and how people control stuff. Maynard sings like a robot or clone at the opening, spitting, "Wear the crutch like a crown/ Calculate what we will/ Will not tolerate/ Desperate to control/ All and everything." Tool know about space and math, and it's pretty complex. "Saturn ascends/ Not one but ten," he sings. No Doubt and R.E.M. sang out that, too, but those songs were wimpy and short. Maynard shows his intelligence with raw stats. I think there's meaning behind those numbers, like calculus. He also mentions "prison cell" and "tear it down" and "controlling" and "sinking deeper," which all symbolize how he feels. Seven minutes into the song, he does this awesome scream for 24 seconds straight, which is like the longest scream I've ever heard. Then at the end there's this part where Danny Carey hits every drum he has. This wall of drums just pounds you. Then the next song starts and it's quiet and trippy. Tool are the best metal band, since they can get trippy (almost pretty, but in a dark way) then just really loud. Most bands just do loud, so Tool is more prog.

Lateralus, which turns 20 years old this Saturday, uses every bit of real estate a compact disc can offer, both figuratively and quite literally. It’s a wonder the universe didn’t collapse in upon itself from the sheer density. “The manufacturer would only guarantee us up to 79 minutes,” drummer Danny Carey said at the time. “We thought we’d give them two seconds of breathing room.” How generous. It remains one of the longest single albums released on CD. Drummer Danny Carey sampled himself breathing through a tube to simulate the chanting of Buddhist monks for "Parabol", and banged piano strings for samples on "Reflection". I couldn’t find anything verifying none of us will be able to buy a CD of 10,000 days, Undertow, etc (other than official OOP ones from collectors) end of 2012. I don’t want to make any assumptions about Tool’s items until there’s verification. I love Lateralus! The cd is incredible and has remained a firm favourite over many years... so could it be any better! OMG!! I've heard the cd hundreds of times, but I've just heard Lateralus for the first time. It really is that much of a revelation! I reacted to this album at a far more visceral and emotional level than I have ever experienced before, it was the best trip I've experienced in years, and entirely induced by the music. It was a very emotional and personal experience so the following will be entirely subjective by may enlighten... Hope this may clear up any rumors or any sort of doubt about the fate of things. However as a collector of all things out of date, i have recently sold VHS tapes and Laser Discs so obviously there is always going to be a market for things out of print, out of date, and the like. Hope to hear some other responses. Two of the singles from the album, " Parabola" and " Schism", are featured in the video game Guitar Hero World Tour.
