Description

British actor, comedian, and filmmaker Richard Ayoade, known for his role in the show The IT Crowd, has whimsically highlighted how to choose and care for a book. . . . This title provides a quirky look at the quandary of getting lost in a library and forming amusing observations about bookworms. . . adorable, silly, and short. . . book lovers will feel seen. Amazingly enough, there is a kind of storyline as the book makes friends with your child, for it does have a beginning, a middle, and an end with simple graphics that are large and colorful. You can hear the author's voice in the Book's words, it's definitely him. I liked the fact you can easily tell the Book, the boy and the narration apart through text font, making it simple to follow in your head. I liked the word definitions, silly Walliams-esque diagrams, lists and comic illustrations.

This was my first book from Richard Ayoade. I didn’t know anything about him until someone told me that he has other funny books too and I can certainly vouch for that with this one! Once upon a time, there was a book that no one wanted to read. Maybe it was dry and boring. Maybe the cover was unattractive. Maybe the book was high up on a shelf where no one could reach. Or maybe the book was biding its time until a special reader came along.... YOU! It’s a book written by a book which ‘manipulatively’ makes us part of its “social experiment” (in a good way). The book would ask its reader to be in an imaginative situation where the reader would find a talking book, which thought that nobody wanted to read it. The book and the bookfinder would then engage in funny and silly conversations. I am not going to spoil anything else because it wouldn’t be fun then. I would also like to clarify that Richard Ayoade is wrong when he states that this is the first book written by a book. It’s not, I reviewed one in 2016 called My Name is Book by John Agard, funny enough published by the same publishers – surely they would have remembered and told him!!!

What is it that makes you want to read a book? They say you should never judge a book by its cover. But how else can you decide whether you might like it? You cant read a book to work out whether you want to read that book because, by that stage, you will have already read it. Unusual pink cover I thought, excellent title, loved the figures and footnotes and grown up touches. Then once we know who we are, we set off into the imaginary library to seek out this " unwanted" book.

Well, reading this book from the point of view of an adult and also a reader, I asked myself the question, “Why wouldn’t I read certain books?” The answer would be very simple - because the book is not for me BUT it could be for somebody else. I am sure being readers, we would totally have different preferences and favourite genres. It would be wise for us to respect each other’s interests. We must also never categorise people/readers based on their choices or preferences of reading materials. Exchange opinions wisely and professionally. If there were books we think we could never accept though we have tried reading till the end - maybe we could discuss ways of how they could be better books. We might not be able to accept certain books now, but as we gradually mature or change roles - who knows, the book we think we hate could be the best read for us. That’s what I think, for now. I do judge my books by cover before opening to see what lay inside. A cover can say a lot about the story inside. My first book from Ayoade, and I could not help but hear his voice in my head while reading it! ( He has a very distinct tone.) My favorite part of the story is when the book and the reader begin to really connect through sharing their worst fears and anxieties. They have to be vulnerable with each other and trust that the other one will accept them and encourage them. To read or write is to open your heart and share a story with someone else, and that takes courage. Simply beautiful! This book is so hilarious and weird. It goes off on these crazy tangents with silly jokes before finally getting to the actual story, and then it veers off into another wild tangent. I love it! The story was not at all what I expected. It's one thing for a book like this to focus solely on engaging a reluctant reader. But to include subtle tips on how to aid in reading skills is kind of unheard of for me. In this sense alone, The Book No One Wants to Read blew every other book like this out of the water. I don't know if I'll ever turn to a different one. He says " How would you describe YOU? Not the you in the reflection of your mirror, as that's just your cover, and by now we know about the trouble with covers - they don't tell the whole story. But that was a look at books through history. This is a silly, sparkling total library-ful of nonsense. The book goes on to play some goofy games with the reader, very clearly citing fooling around as their course of action. The book suggests that the best way to deal with the boredom they both have is to play some games. And the games are engaging. But, what I loved most about this book is that it doesn't just begin and end with the conspiratorial nature and games.
