Description

The Pro Go will be a familiar layout to anyone who’s seen previous Mixstream models. Like the Mixstream Pro and Pro Plus, the Pro Go is a two-channel design with a 7-inch touchscreen, 6-inch jog wheels and basic mixer. There are a few superficial differences to the colour scheme, but the big difference in terms of hardware is the inclusion of a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which obviously adds weight to the Pro Go (around one kilogram more than the Pro Plus) but gives you the benefit of four hours’ fully wireless performance (our testing suggested Numark might be a little conservative with this claim; battery life will depend on various factors like screen brightness, speaker volume and so on, but you should easily manage four hours plus in normal usage). Engine DJ 3.1 also brings new Sampler updates! Sampler audio can now be routed to any available channel, or to the main output. Access this by double-pressing the Roll pad mode button. The possibilities are endless! So following on from our first review of the unit (when we had literally had a day or two to get our heads around it), here are some long-term user thoughts about this intriguing little portable DJ system. To take advantage of these new features and enhancements, ensure your software is up-to-date with this latest 2.4 version. New Engine DJ 2.0 Firmware Update Some may remember the Stanton SCS4 DJ, which was an early and brave attempt at this kind of device but that, despite showing promise, was ultimately both aheads of its time and underpowered; this certainly feels like that kind of product coming of age.

The Engine 3.1 update offers DJs freedom like they’ve never had before, from interactive touch FX to creating your own unique Smartlist. On top of these external media sources, the Prime GO also features inbuilt Wi-Fi and a wired ethernet connection. By using the internet, you can then log into streaming services such as Tidal, Soundcloud, Beatport link and Beatsource, brilliant for event DJ’s, especially when dealing with requests. The face of the Prime GO is dominated by the 7-inch touchscreen,a hallmark of all the Denon DJ Prime gear. It has the same multi-touch screen technology used in all Prime systems as well. Vivid and bright, it responds to the touch controls smoothly and snappily – much like a modern smartphone. PRIME GO has all the creative, hands-on features and power you’d need for any style of DJing. With 2 channel line faders, crossfader, capacitive touch jog-wheels and expressive 3-band EQ, you can shape and blend your audio to sonic perfection. Take the music into another dimension using PRIME GO’s assignable beat-FX module, in-line Sweep FX and Filter for added audio manipulation. The pitch faders are small – only 100mm – and the volume faders and crossfaders seem adequate at best. Nothing terrible, but not exactly the highest-quality feel. As is typical in most gear these days, the upfaders have more resistance to them than the crossfader. The crossfader does has a very large cut-in point (I measured it to be about 2.5mm) –but I doubt too many people will be scratching on the Prime GO to begin with. It still would have been nice to offer a way to adjust the cut lag to something a little tighter. Effects Introducing Engine DJ 3.1, the ultimate DJ software update with additional features that enhance creativity. Featuring brand new Touch FX - use the touchscreen to control and interact with FX in a whole new way. Create tensions, build-ups and transitions by swiping your finger in any direction with effects Filter Echo, Filter Reverb, Filter Roll, LFO Echo, Filter Dub Echo, Filter Gate, Noise Gate, Flanger, LFO Filter and Filte. Not to mention, there are now over 25 new and enhanced dynamic FX options for Denon DJ hardware, such as Echo Out, Swell Verb, Hold Echo, Recycler, Stutter Out, Riser, Pitch Down, and more! All these effects can also be applied on a focused frequency range also. Unlike the Prime 2 and Prime 4 controllers, the 7″ touch screen’s fixed in a flat position on the unit, but thankfully the viewing angles are still excellent thanks to the shallow depth of the product. The Jog Wheels I’ve been using the Denon DJ Prime GO for six months now, regularly. I have used it at home, and to play gigs. I have livestreamed on it, prepared sets on it, taken it away with me. I have attempted to use it as my “only” DJ system.

You can play media from the USB A port on the rear of the unit, or via the SD card slot on the front. The Prime GO also features a USB B port for connecting to a computer. We expect to see software support for this some point in the future. The M classification means the programme might contain violence, sexual material, offensive language, adult themes, nudity, or other content that some children and parents find challenging. The programme may contain content with a moderate impact and themes that require a mature outlook. On free-to-air television, M programmes may be screened between 9am and 3pm on weekdays (except during school and public holidays, as designated by the Ministry of Education) and after 7.30pm until 5am. When it comes to having a fully featured, fully standalone DJ system capable of running without a power source for 3-4 hours –complete with the build quality and inputs and outputs expected from a professional DJ, this really is a unique piece on the market. And it’s all housed in an ultra-portable form factor, while running an OS with the most intuitive UI on the market." The Denon DJ Prime Go is an intriguing and fun new DJ addition to the company’s pro-focused Prime DJ gear range, which was launched today alongside the Prime 2. It’s a standalone, portable two-channel DJ system with a built-in computer, screen, battery, and WiFi music streaming.I have DJed with a laptop for years, but especially when playing outdoors and when livestreaming, it is so much simpler to DJ with a portable, standalone item like this.
