At the time, Hall was appealing his conviction for the abduction and murder of a 15-year-old, and there was a possibility he could walk free, and they wanted to ensure that didn't happen. Despite Taron Egerton’s Keene and the real James Keene being technically unsuccessful in drawing any further confessions out of Larry Hall, he was still given his freedom after his time in USMCFP Springfield. The real James Keen passed a polygraph test that confirmed he truly did befriend Larry Hall and try and elicit information from him. All in all, Jimmy Keene spent less than a year in prison, having served ten months for the drug conviction before heading to USMCFP Springfield. So often the endings of book generally are maybe not quite there. I had some doubts about this one at one point. However I found myself laughing aloud at the end - my thanks to the author for the ending! Taron Egerton as James "Jimmy" Keene, accused of drug and weapons conspiracy, facing a 10-year prison sentence without a chance for parole It was great to be reading the 11th David Raker book by Tim Weaver. I thought that the opening was excellent. A car crash that no one could have survived, so where are the bodies? Two witnesses were there within a couple of minutes of it happening and saw no one emerge from the car and there are no bodies in the burnt out car. The book follows Raker's investigation into their disappearance on behalf of the family.Tim Weaver is the bestselling author of the David Raker missing persons series and the standalone thriller, Missing Pieces. His novels have twice been selected for the Richard and Judy Book Club, and his work has been nominated for a National Book Award. Hall would smell him a mile away,” Beaumont replied. “He’d be too polished, and Hall would sense that and clam right up. But you’re perfect. You can mix with anyone—from the street level to the board level.” As the prosecutor described Jimmy’s qualifications for the job, Keene realized that during all the years that they had tried to put him away, Beaumont and the narcotics squads had observed Keene’s social skills with grudging admiration. He says, “It seemed like a dream. One minute, I’m sitting in Michigan on the hot dime of a ten-year sentence with a long way to go. Then Beaumont pops up out of nowhere with this serial-killer thing and like tomorrow I could be out.” Inspired by a true story, the ensemble cast includes Taron Egerton, Paul Walter Hauser, Sepideh Moafi, Greg Kinnear and Ray Liotta In with the Devil presents the true story of a young man destined for greatness on the football field—until a few wrong turns led him to a ten-year prison sentence. He was offered an impossible mission: Coax a confession out of a fellow inmate, a serial killer, and walk free. Otterson, Joe (January 25, 2021). "Taron Egerton, Paul Walter Hauser to Star in Apple Series Adaptation of 'In With the Devil' ". Variety . Retrieved March 26, 2021.

This thrilling read has kept me guessing from the moment I started reading. The style in which Weaver writes has this wonderful eb and flow that just draws you in but the speed at which events unfold is relentless so be prepared, you need to sit up and pay attention. Just a few months into his sentence, Keene was approached by the prosecutor who put him behind bars. He had convicted a man named Larry Hall for abducting and killing a fifteen-year-old. Although Hall was suspected of killing nineteen other young women, there was a chance he could still be released on appeal. If Keene could get him to confess to two murders, there would be no doubt about Hall's guilt. In return, Keene would get an unconditional release from prison. But he could also get killed. Nordyke, Kimberly (January 15, 2023). "Critics Choice Awards: Full List of Winners". The Hollywood Reporter. Archived from the original on January 16, 2023 . In 1993, Wabash resident Larry Hall is brought in for questioning as a suspect in the murder of an underage girl. Local police describe him as a harmless serial confessor, but detective Brian Miller manages to coax out of him that he has dreams about murdering women. In 1996, charming drug and arms dealer James "Jimmy" Keene, is arrested and sentenced to ten years in prison without bail. Seven months into his sentence, he is approached by FBI agent Lauren McCauley and offered a deal for a clean start with lesser sentence and completely clean record: he will transfer into a facility for the criminally insane in Springfield, befriend Larry, and convince him to admit to killing fourteen women, having only been convicted of two murders, which he is trying to get overturned. Jimmy initially rejects the deal, but after his father James has a stroke caused by the stress of his son's incarceration, he starts studying Larry's case file in hopes of being the inmate selected to befriend him.

Jimmy Keene grew up outside of Chicago. Although he was the son of a policeman and rubbed shoulders with the city's elite, he ended up on the wrong side of the law and was sentenced to ten years with no chance of parole. The worst was yet to come. His mother sobbed hysterically somewhere behind him, but when the marshals grabbed his arms to lead him out of the court, he first scanned the spectators to find his father—his idol and his best friend. A tall, brawny man with a mustache and full head of dark hair, Big Jim looked a decade younger than his sixty years. But now, upon hearing the sentence, he, too, was stunned, his face pale and eyes unfocused. “Like he was lost,” Jimmy says.

Jimmy was still confused. Why did the prosecutor want him to go undercover? “Why don’t you take some FBI guy and send him in?” he asked. Petski, Denise (April 29, 2021). Running alongside this major question mark are a past event 30 years ago, a situation with one of Raker’s friends/ex colleagues and for a further twist, the investigation into The Dune Murders. Needless to says there’s are loads of twists, thousands of turns and SO many seemingly unrelated characters and storylines that you’d have to be a absolute genius to figure this one out! They’re obviously dead – but when firefighters arrive at the scene the car is empty, the Gascoignes nowhere to be found. How did that happen and where are they? Taken on by Cate’s grieving family, these are two questions that Raker is determined to answer, but as his investigation progresses, more and more questions are about to cloud the issue further. Could this be the case that finally defeats this master of missing persons investigations? EnergaCAMERIMAGE 2022 TV Series Competition Line-up!". EnergaCAMERIMAGE. October 19, 2022 . Retrieved December 10, 2022.Although Beaumont and the FBI were convinced that Hall was a serial killer, he had been convicted for killing just one victim, Jessica Roach, the girl in the cornfield, and it took two trials to do it. The guilty verdict from the first was overturned on appeal, and now an appeal was pending on the second conviction. A basis for both appeals was that Hall’s confession had been coerced by wily investigators. If the government lost the second appeal, Beaumont would have to try Hall yet again and he might go free. In Life, People can take a few wrong turns that destroy them. I’m one of those people. But I was given a second chance—not only to save myself but to redeem society for the wrong choices I made.
