Description

Reminding dog walkers to pick up poo should be unnecessary but, as we all know, some people do need telling. Studies have shown that walking before breakfast, within one hour of waking, burns off more fat than a walk after a meal. Walk slow, fast, at night, in the morning, after meals, alone, with a friend, in the rain, singing, meditating etc etc x 52.

Ways to Walk is published by Bloomsbury in the UK and Putnam Penguin Random House in the US under Annabel Streets. Our vision, hearing, respiration, sleep, cognition, memory, blood pressure, sense of smell and balance are all enhanced by how we walk. I found this book by listening to an interview with the author, Annabel Streets, on the Mind Body Green podcast.A former FBI hostage negotiator offers a new, field-tested approach to negotiating - effective in any situation. An impressively readable book, this is a flexible and quick-paced non-fiction on the many methods and benefits of walking. There is another chapter where the author notes she lost her sense of smell due to COVID but then later in the chapter tells us she went on "smell walks" with the aforementioned lost sense. s obzirom na sumanutu kilometražu koju svakodnevno prolazim hodajući, nadala sam se da će mi ovaj priručnik unijeti dašak svježine dok, eto, prolazim manje-više istim rutama i na to trošim (ili, ako obrneš: ulažem) sate i sate.

This is one I'm going to want to dip in and out of at will, which is much easier with an actual book. Streets (gotta smile a little about her name) lays out the reasons to walk in the morning, in the even, in the rain, uphill and so on.Streets carefully breaks down the psychological and physical benefits of [walking], and makes a solid case that getting some movement in outside can help one ‘appreciate the exquisitely complicated and beautiful world we inhabit. I wasn't sure what I was going to get with this book, although it shouldn't have been a surprise given the rather informative title, but it was so unexpectedly delightful! Inspirational, backed by science, illuminated with human anecdote, and bolstered with how-to tips, 52 Ways to Walk will inspire, challenge, support, and encourage everyone to become more ambitious with their walking practice, revealing how walking may be the best-kept secret of the supremely healthy and happy, the creative and well-slept–those with the best posture and sharpest memories.
