Fukuda, Rika (April 12, 2013). "ネムキ後継誌Nemuki+創刊記念、「百鬼夜行抄」今市子インタビュー". Comic Natalie (in Japanese). Natasha, Inc . Retrieved May 22, 2022. The most common obsessions are with beauty, long hair, and beautiful girls, especially in his Tomie and Flesh-Colored Horror comic collections. For example: A girl's hair rebels against being cut off and runs off with her head; Girls deliberately catch a disease that makes them beautiful but then murder each other; a woman treats her skin with lotion so she can take it off and look at her muscles, but the skin dissolves and she tries to steal her sister's skin, etc. The main character Ryusuke told a woman’s fortune at the crossroad when he was asked as a young boy. That ended in tragedy and he is haunted by the guilt. Especially as he grew up to know her niece. But, is the past still haunting him at the crossroads? There’s also a pair of manga about ‘the strange Hikizuri siblings’ – ‘Narumi’s Boyfriend’ and ‘The Séance’ – which have to rank among my least favourites of all the Ito I’ve read; this type of humour either works for you or really doesn’t, and I’m in the latter camp. (The loose ends left by ‘The Séance’ led me to assume there are further Hikizuri tales, but that doesn’t seem to be the case, making this another case of an oddly inconclusive ending.)

The vast majority of this collection follows a single storyline -- a small town obsessed with fortune telling and plagued with suicides. I absolutely loved these stories -- they're fantastically well told and illustrated and I couldn't get enough. Kaiki Mangado is a tribute manga by Tsuyoshi Adachi (あだち つよし) and Miyazaki Katsu (宮崎克) that tells the real-life stories of several horror mangaka based on interviews with Katsu: Shinichi Koga, Hideshi Hino, Junji Ito and Kanako Inuki.

Born in Gifu Prefecture in 1963, he was inspired from a young age by his older sister's drawing and Kazuo Umezu's comics and thus took an interest in drawing horror comics himself. Nevertheless, upon graduation he trained as a dental technician, and until the early 1990s he juggled his dental career with his increasingly successful hobby — even after being selected as the winner of the prestigious Umezu prize for horror manga.

Junji Ito has got to be my favourite horror person. Everything he creates is so cryptic and interesting, with concepts wild enough to snag my attention without much effort. As expected, this story collection marks another of Ito’s works I adored. A book covering the work of Junji Ito, released to commemorate his 30th anniversary as a mangaka. Contains interviews, unpublished works, and pictures of paintings and illustrations. The novella’s main character is middle-school student Ryusuke, one of Itō’s typically secretive, passive protagonists. Ryusuke is returning to a nameless, mist-ridden Japanese town after eight years away. The townspeople have an old folk superstition: if you go to a crossroads, and ask the first person to appear to tell your fortune, the prediction will come true. The Rib Woman - A wonderful story that blended themes of body image with a wonderfully creepy narrative. Oct 25 Yearning Teens, Frustrated Romance, Pretty Skies — Is There Anything Else to Makoto Shinkai? Let me start off by saying the art is beautiful. Even during the gruesome scenes, I was captivated by the illustrations.
