Description

Traditionally the cake is covered in green fondant, but the bakery where my Mom bought her cakes leaves the marzipan un-tinted so that’s what I did too. Step Two: Pipe the swiss meringue buttercream on top of the cupcakes. To get frilly frosting, slowly pipe a swirl on to the cupcake and swirl upwards and inwards. Step 8: Finally, with the white frosting, add a third circle but this time finishing with an upward flourish so that the swirl ends in a peak at the top. But this year I vowed to get it right. The recipe is adapted from Martha Stewart, but I also consulted so many other online sources. Blogs like SemiSwede and Global Table Adventure had beautiful examples and great tips, and this Swedish video tutorial was extremely helpful when it came time to put it all together. Armed with all the research I could find, I was ready to give it another go.

To assemble the princess cake: Using a 6" round of parchment as a guide or a 6" cake ring, cut three 6" circles out of the chiffon cake. Use your fingers or a nylon spreader to peel off the dark surface from the top side of each cake round to expose the crumb. (Save cake scraps in the freezer for trifle or rum balls, or to make miniature princess cakes.) Step 4:Load the three colors of frosting into separate decorating bags with a Wilton 1M Open Star Decorating Tip and gather up your cupcakes!Making swiss meringue buttercream can seem like a bit of a faff because there's an extra step when you heat the egg whites and sugar together. It is so worth it though! If you follow my recipe you will end up with amazing frosting and I know you'll be delighted with the results. What You Need For the chocolate cupcakes

Use a sharp knife to cut the excess marzipan as close to the base of the cake as possible. Decorate the cake with fresh edible flowers, marzipan flowers, piped buttercream flowers, or simply a dusting of confectioners’ sugar. Keep the cake chilled until ready to serve.

Disney Princess Cupcake Toppers

Step 2:The key to these delicious cupcakes is our Best Buttercream Frostingrecipe. It is light and creamy and buttery and super delicious! You will find the recipe and directions here. One batch of frosting will be enough to frost 12 cupcakes. If you used a boxed cake mix, you should have about 18 cupcakes and will need to double the frosting recipe. Once you have the frosting made, split it into thirds. Because the three layers of the frosting swirl are not all the same size we portioned our single batch of frosting as follows: I was married in the beautiful city of Prague in Czech Republic. My Czech husband’s sister, who lived near Prague, kept the small top layer in her freezer for a year (a custom the bride usually keeps). My husband and I could not take it to our home because we lived in the US. It was so nice that my sister-in-law stored it for us. Then one year later we returned, and my sister-in-law defrosted it. At that dessert there was my husband and I, and five others, including my mother-in-law. The top layer was small to the degree that it hardly fed us all. My sister-in-law gave the largest pieces to her sons, husband, and my husband, and my piece was so small it couldn’t even stand up. I know I sound ungrateful to her, but when it comes to a bride’s desires, things matter so much. I was sad. Later I told my husband that, and he sort of scolded me. Princess cupcakes make an incredible centrepiece for a Disney themed birthday party. Having two daughters, I've made so many themed cakes and sweet treats over the years but nothing lights up a little girl's face more than her favourite Disney Princesses sitting perched atop a cupcake.

When you’re ready to finish the princess cake, remove it from the refrigerator, unfold the plastic from the top, then invert it onto a serving board or plate. Lift up the pan and remove all of the plastic wrap. Lightly press down on the edges of the top layer to make a domed shape rather than a flat top. Kids go crazy for the Disney figures! It's a nice idea to make a cupcake as a party favour, it always goes down well when the recipient gets to keep her favourite princess. Today is my mother’s birthday and in a few days, the first anniversary of her sudden passing, and so I’m sharing this cake in her honor.

How to decorate Princess Cupcakes

In a separate jug, whisk the milk, eggs and vanilla extract. Gradually pour the milk mixture into the flour mixture, beating well. To assemble the cake, using a serrated knife, cut the cake horizontally into three even layers. Place one of the sponges onto a serving plate. Spread a very thin layer of custard over the base of the first sponge. Step Four: Add the butter a tablespoon at a time, once all the butter has been added your mixture will have changed from glossy white and will probably look like it’s split. I actually attempted to make one for her birthday a few years ago and failed miserably. It was just one big mess of whipped cream and torn marzipan.
