Read in a single night, applauding along the way. For anyone who’s ever wished to turn her life around, Finlay Donovan is the master. From failing everything, to succeeding brilliantly, she proves you only need to get mistaken once for a contract killer, to solve all your problems.” I’m late. I can’t discuss this with you right now. Can I bring Zach to you or not?” I will not cry. I will not— Megan Miranda, New York Times bestselling author of The Girl from Widow Hills and The Last House Guest

Cosimano’s] story authentically depicts the messiness, hilarity and heartfelt moments of motherhood.” Definitely the relationship between Vero and Finlay. That unconditional support coming in a non-traditional way I thought was pretty cool and a great message. A relationship does not need to be romantic to be fulfilling. A complimentary copy was provided by Minotaur Books via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. My agent was already on a train from Grand Central to Union Station, where I was supposed to meet her for a brunch reservation at a restaurant I couldn’t afford so we could discuss exactly how overdue I was on my deadline for a book I had started three times and probably would never finish because … Jesus, look around me. Reasons.

The winners here are the readers, who will find themselves in a pleasant and humorous comic caper.... FINLAY DONOVAN IS KILLING IT is an easy, enjoyable and witty novel." We’re getting ready to dive in to the details of the book. Haven’t read it yet? Get acquainted with our latest selection here. I can’t go to school like this. Everyone will laugh at me!” Delia cried big snotty tears as Zachary rubbed toaster waffles in his hair and gawked at her from his high chair. “Daddy would know how to fix it.” How does Finlay’s relationship to her motherhood (and especially single-motherhood) play out throughout the novel? This second book in the Finlay Donovan series, where Finlay makes bigger messes trying to clean up a mess, is was even more fun than the first one, for me. Hot on the heels of her last fiasco, Finlay discovers that someone on a women's forum is badmouthing her ex husband Steven. Someone else is offering condolences, of a sort. Actually, if you squint really hard, you could see that the messages are coded to be a request for someone to kill Steven and someone else accepting the hit. Finlay hates her cheating, lying, husband as much as the next woman but he's been a good father to their kids and she doesn't want them to lose their father.Sure. Without spoiling it for anyone who has not had a chance to finish the book, I will say that the last line of Finlay Donovan Is Killing It becomes the springboard for the mystery in book two. So if you got to the last line of the book and gasped, you will be very satisfied and excited to begin the journey in book two, because that’s the mystery that we’re going to be unfolding. Join our herd of book nerds by following Scary Mommy Book Club The humor was spot on for me and the storyline entertaining from beginning-to-end. Going into this installment, I didn't even read the synopsis. In terms of piecing that character and that voice together, I was just trying to stay true to the experience of motherhood. And and I think in doing so certain things come to light that, that especially now are so timely, especially with COVID and everything else. We’re seeing moms pulling a lot of double duty. We’re seeing moms who were working from home and educating their children from home and struggling with childcare and families trying to rebalance loads.

I love her relationship with Vero. Even though they were sort of thrust together, they're committed to one another and I love that type of unconditional friendship. But our experiences don’t always mirror one another. I’m very fortunate that I’ve had a loving, supportive partner in my husband who has helped me balance the load and, we work really well together. And Finlay, of course, did not have that advantage. She was flying solo quite a bit. Of note, I read a print copy of the first book and listened to the audiobooks for the remainder of the series, and I honestly enjoyed both formats. I think you can easily choose either and have a great reading experience. Megan and Ashley are my critique partners, and we’ve been critiquing together writing together mothering from a distance sort of side-by-side for a decade. We all three came into writing fresh as new authors. None of us were really entirely sure of our footing. And our children were all very young at the same time. So we were going through all of these life experiences together. And every year we make a point of seeing each other in person for a writing retreat, which is also a sort of a mom’s retreat and a woman’s retreat. After a bit of thought, I just realized this was something I needed to do. I couldn’t shake that idea at that point, It was rooted. So that summer I did it. I gave my business to my business partner and I said, there’s something I need to do for myself. And I took my boys, who were five and eight at the time, and my mom watched the boys while she sent me upstairs to a little quiet room and told me to go write a book. Getting the job done" for one single mom takes on a whole new meaning in Finlay Donovan is Killing It , a deliciously witty adult debut - the first in a brilliant new series from YA Edgar Award nominee Elle Cosimano. It doesn't help that there were so many characters in here, each of whom had their own reasons and their own antics. Soon, so much was happening that it all became a bit muddled. It felt like we were just going in circles, and I had trouble keeping straight who was related to who in what way and why they were all doing what they were doing. It felt like a hot mess, honestly. I love mysteries!!! This was a refreshing take on a plot for a mystery book!! It wasn’t too dark or suspenseful. I really enjoyed the playful and comedic approach/flavor to a mystery book. I had a hard time putting it down!! It was like Bridget Jones meets Girl on a Train!!
