Flashing Fire Engines offers explanations of what the animal fire fighters are doing as they go about their day. It is in a rhyming format that kids will really like. There are no light up items which is kind of what I thought when I saw the title. But there are a lot of fun words like wailing sirens, flashing lights and more. I had a request for fire engine books and I was happy to gather together anexcellentselection of books dedicated to this very popular topic. Even very early in life babies can hear a wide variety of sounds. Infants will turn towards the sound of a toy and begin to reach towards it. This ability to recognise the direction that a sound is coming from improves greatly during the first few years of life. Young infants listen longer to the sound of human voice and seem to prefer it to any other sound. They are especially aware of the sound of language and like to be spoken to slowly and with a high pitch. This is sometimes referred to as ‘infant directed speech’ or even ‘baby talk’. Young babies are quite sensitive in their auditory abilities and can perceive all the categorical sound distinctions in world languages. As babies develop their auditory abilities narrow so that eventually babies are only sensitive to those sound categories specific to their native language. Touch and Feel Fire Engines by DK is great. I really like their Touch and Feel series for the realistic, excellent photos. They include a bumpy grill, rubber tires etc. to feel. There are fun books! The Fire Engine Book is a classic Little Golden Book reissue. It is oh so retro. The book features fire fighters at work as they get in their engine and race to the fire.
