No nails are used so that the structure can be disassembled and taken on the road Trevelyan Retrospective It was a great birthday party for such a timeless and enduring film that continues to resonate throughout the decades. This conversation will be hosted by Julia Brow, founder and programmer of No Planet B - an arts organisation which inspires environmental activism through film & culture. Meanwhile, tensions arise between Martin and the out-of-town Leigh family, who use the harbour-front ‘Skipper’s Cottage’ they bought from Martin and Steven as a seasonal holiday home and short-term rental business. Alongside these two wonderful films we will be joined on Tuesday 13 September by Drew Pendergrass and Troy Vettese, authors of the recently-published Half-Earth Socialism , to discuss the book and their plan for a future free from extinction, climate change and pandemics.

What a fantastic night! Wonderfully comfortable cinema, huge screen, great projection, excellent sound and an outstanding array of guests on the panel. Gareth Evans launched the evening with a superb dynamic and entertaining introduction, setting the bar high, and the audience were not disappointed.

A truly remarkable film that shows how much can be achieved with so little. Booth’s eye-opening documentary is about a centre in India which provides free prosthetic limbs for the many people, largely the poorest in society, who have lost one or both limbs. Together these films highlight that creative thinking and a will to change can actually change the world. Together, this Clydeside phoenix and half century old film encapsulate the same philosophies, skills, inventiveness and the sheer joy of passion, creativity and living life to the fullest, showing the limitless realities of sustainable living and a superb example of a way forward which sends a powerful message proving what can be achieved with so little when dedication is no stranger and the imagination knows no bounds. Did you know the family, or visit their home? Do you have any questions about the film? If you are a fan of the film this is an occasion not to be missed. I found them freer than most people. They had found a way of enjoying life and I wanted to capture that”. Dilys Powell (29 August 1971). The Sunday Times Weekly Review. {{ cite news}}: Missing or empty |title= ( help) Philip Trevelyan is the director of The Moon and the Sledgehammer. Trevelyan’s film career spans 1964 to 1975 and includes Lambing, The Ship Hotel – Tyne Main, Big Ware, and Basil Bunting. A master of pace and poetic expression, his constant theme features people who have found true contentment in life. Critic John Russell Taylor of The Times recently called him ‘one of the few real poets of cinema’. Trevelyan took up organic farming in 1974, and now runs an organic miller co-operative, as well as designing award-winning ergonomic hand tools, specialising in chemical free weed control by the traditional but labour intensive practice of removing and permanently eradicating individual plants https://lazydogtools.co.uk Link to Guardian article: https://tinyurl.com/xx4c8mre

The Moon and the Sledgehammer was produced and distributed by Vaughan, a well-known and much loved entrepreneur of the film scene, who had a unique flair for publicity. Among his many claims to fame was that he discovered Andy Warhol. He also distributed works by many other underground and political film makers but it was through the Warhol connection that The Moon and the Sledgehammer came to be distributed. In their unlikely setting the daughters pursued traditional female roles while the men devoted a great part of their time to maintaining and driving their ancient Allchin and Fowler steam engines around their land to no apparent purpose apart from the sheer enjoyment of it.
