But it's certainly a sweet and quick read, though one that requires a good cup of tea (and maybe a sweet treat to pair it with! and you just invent the concept of libraries in a single conversation (also, does the magic school NOT have libraries already? Worn wooden floors, plants on every table, firelight drifting between the rafters - all complemented by love and good company. The people of Tawney maybe apprehensive initially but bonds are built slowly and it was nice to see a helpful community, which comes together despite their differences. It also ends on a little epilogue which promises new as well as our main characters, and surely more shenanigans.

we were told over and over again that they were so deeply in love, but we never really saw it (or felt it). it also killed me every time they had an extended conversation, because there was always some sort of commentary on how good their communication styles were. Interactions between characters are really repetitive, which makes them get a bit stale as the book progresses. But I couldn’t read before it’s release, so it was nice finding it on KU and getting to it when I was in the right mood for it.

I felt like I understood what I needed to understand about the countries, rulers, different cultures, magic etc.

We can have high stakes, all the makings and adventure of a traditional high fantasy, and still be cozy. This book was pretty cute at first for sure, but while I don't need a plot to keep me interested in a good set of characters, I do need *something*. I'd say the biggest weakness of this book is that the characters don't feel very rich or differentiated from one another, but I hope the author can grow in future books.speaking of relationships, i was also disappointed in the fact that kianthe and reyna had a preexisting relationship. But Reyna is an elite bodyguard to a vengeful queen, and Kianthe is the most powerful mage in existence.

You can feel the Legends and Lattes inspiration, but Can't Spell Treason is almost a different animal than its predecessor. I couldn't care for the characters and the plot felt the opposite of cozy fantasy - don't get me started on the surface level romantic interactions between Kianthe and Reyna who, at this point, were just corny and with the chemistry of a toast. are they having a conversation or is this a buzzfeed article on the top 10 ways to have healthier communication? Romántica y fantasía se juntan para dar una novelita tranquila sobre asentar tu vida con tu pareja y aprender a dejar atrás una posición que, aunque cómoda, no te iba a hacer feliz. And it's also refreshing to see a couple already established in a story, working on building a life together.Worn wooden floors, plants on every table, firelight drifting between the rafters – all complemented by love and good company. There was lots of humour that did actually make me laugh/smile at times (and then despair of myself in the case of some of the puns).
