Pazuzu is parodied in a 1990 episode of the BBC television sketch series, French and Saunders, titled "The Exorcist", in which Dawn French portrays Pazuzu/Regan, and Jennifer Saunders portrays Chris MacNeil. Demons of the old faith were relegated to Hell — after all, anything from the underworld had no place in the holy world of Heaven. According to Eckart Frahm's study of the Demon, the appearance of Pazuzu has remained fairly uniform throughout his history.

In another text he is perceived as more malicious, as the narrator addresses him as "Agony of Mankind", [16] "Suffering of Mankind", [16] "Disease of Mankind", [16] and chants telling the demon to not enter the home. As an apotropaic entity, he was considered as both a destructive and dangerous wind, but also as a repellant to other demons, one who would safeguard the home from their influence.They cover the earth and disturb the god Enlil with their noise to such an extent that he decides to destroy them in a great flood. In this same way, statuettes of Pazuzu drew on the essence of the demon himself and guaranteed one safety in their presence. It is later found out that Pazuzu convinced the Gemini Killer, who died at the same time as Father Karras, to inhabit his body as punishment for saving Regan.

You will soon learn many people adorned their homes and beds with the statues and plaques of Pazuzu, to scare away other demons and lower level entities.

It is revealed later on in the game that the Sumerians molded his appearance off a race of extraterrestrial creatures that take the form of giant humanoid bats. Cuoghi's monumental rendering of Pazuzu is based on an iconic, 15-centimeter high sculpture from the Louvre Museum, which is included in the exhibition. The demon mask used in the movie Onibaba (1964) inspired Friedkin to use a similar design for the makeup in the shots.
