I bought these headphones as my old Audiotechnica M30X's broke after years of use and abuse, and I had recently bought an AKG microphone which had become my favorite, so I gave this brand a go. This still sounded a little harsh to our ears at times, with what seemed to be a pronounced bump around the 1-2kHz region, making these quite fatiguing to listen to for long periods at a moderate volume. Dave has been making music with computers since 1988 and his engineering, programming and keyboard-playing has featured on recordings by artists including George Michael, Kylie and Gary Barlow. In all, the AKG K361 headphone is a quality device that sure serves several purposes and is a good option for almost all kinds of professionals and also casual music listeners who are quite particular about the quality of audio they want to listen to. It has a trick up its sleeve though, in the shape of two detachable cables also included in the package, but does its ability to be used either in cabled or wireless guises make the K361-BT the best of both worlds?

The trade-off for this though is a noticeable difference in sound quality compared to when using them with a wired connection - but why should this be? The transmission range seems decent - whilst listening, we left the computer playing and wandered through the next room into the hallway and up some stairs with no dropouts or degradation whatsoever. Brilliant all-rounder studio reference headphone with a gentle but satisfying bass boost and added Bluetooth features.

There’s something pleasingly enveloping about a really big pair of closed-back over-ears, and if it’s a design you enjoy you may initially rejoice here. It does, however, deliver quality highs and lows when in use and provides a sort of light sound feel.

Why the more universally-supported, higher quality aptX codec is not included as an option seems strange to us.With low or moderate level volume, you can expect to have no issues of sound leakage, though, with high volume, it doesn't turn out the same way. Asides from technical features, the AKG K361 does brilliantly as well in terms of physical features though there is one major downside. Alongside Beyerdynamic and Sennheiser, AKG completes the triumvirate of top-line, professional headphone brands that have been ubiquitous in studios for decades. The claim, of course, is a professional, studio-quality sound and a design you can wear for hours at the mixing desk, in the booth or on the bus, with the option of also going wireless.

Plug one of the supplied locking cables into the socket on the underside of the left earpiece though, and not only does latency cease to be an issue, but the sound quality improves considerably as well.

Whether you're a dedicated audiophile or simply looking to upgrade your listening experience, we'll guide you through a detailed analysis of these headphones. Earlier when I mentioned that the lack of buttons was probably a move to reduce pressure on the headphones, the reference point for that is the lightweight of the AKG 361.
