Description

An explosive insight into the previously unseen world of football club ownership by one of the game's most-recognisable figures It's both an entertaining and astounding read about all the experiences he has had facing incompetent football associations, bland managers, heartless players and of course greedy agents. Jordan will quit Palace next year". BBC Sport. 16 July 2008. Archived from the original on 24 July 2008 . Retrieved 23 October 2013. Ten years later Palace was in administration and Jordan had lost nigh on everything. Be Careful What You Wish For lifts the lid on being the owner of a football club and how the game really works. Hopes and dreams sit alongside greed, self-interest, dodgy transfers, boardroom fights and dressing room dressing downs. Throughout no one is spared, least of all Jordan himself.

Be Careful What You Wish For (Audio Download): Simon Jordan

I think it deserves 4* as it was honest and named individuals whether good or bad, pulled no punches, and gives a behind the scenes look that maybe football supporters wouldn't regularly see. Forgotten the title or the author of a book? Our BookSleuth is specially designed for you. Visit BookSleuth Breathtakingly honest, highly controversial, humorous and full of jaw-dropping anecdotes, Be Careful What You Wish For is far more than a football book. It is a social commentary on the culture of great wealth and ambition; a Shakespearean tragedy that exposes the dark side of chasing a dream. The book is interesting because it opens up some of the behind the scenes machinations of the game, which it has to be said are far from appealing. Just like Ian Ridley's Floodlit Dreams, about that author's time as owner of Weymouth FC, Jordan's offering does not make you want to own a club yourself with all the politics, pettiness and egos that go with it. Palace put brakes on Bruce". BBC Sport. 22 November 2001. Archived from the original on 13 November 2012 . Retrieved 23 October 2013. Football is a notoriously murky overpriced players, dodgy transfers, top-level corruption. Of course, the establishment always closes rank and those at the top stay quiet. But Jordan doesn't do quiet. And now, for the first time, he lifts the lid on what really goes on behind the scenes in football. With his year-round tan Jordan may be a 'marmite' figure, but love him or hate him his story is a revelation.

Jordan, Simon (5 March 2006). "Just one thing wrong with tabloid stories – the facts". The Observer. London. My only criticism is that it ends most abruptly with his parting with Crystal Palace. At the beginning of the book it is autobiographical, birth, childhood, parents, friends, education etc. Then it is almost all about the trials and tribulations of owning a football club and is fascinating and truly enlightening. But I had hoped that with an audiobook being released in 2022 he could have added to the end a succinct description of his life after Crystal Palace. It appears that the beautiful game is anything but behind the scenes.. who would want to own a football club! Simon Jordan is a bit difficult to listen to for too long on talksport but really enjoyed his story and the way it as told. Unhappy Newcastle fans made their feelings towards Bruce known at Old Trafford - his ties to rival club Sunderland meant the coach got off on the wrong foot from the beginning Credit: Getty Perhaps this is not the best endorsement for Simon Jordan and his book, but how many other football chairman can you think of that was more controversial, more outspoken, and more blonde than the former Eagles owner?

We all love the idea of owning our boyhood club but [Jordan's] memoir strips away the romance in a frequently hilarious, often alarming account The Times
