Yesterday I setting up the spare top to use on a Dewalt miter saw stand and discovered that some Delrin dogs (I bought at some point) fit the holes nicely so I got got out my best big machinist square and checked the pattern. They will support boards and planks for easier sawing and, handily, they also double-up as a temporary table support with a board for when you're. I was expecting to need to spend some time levelling the top shelf frame before adding the MFT top, but because I assembled it on a flat floor, it actually looked pretty good when sighting down the length. When I use the router after drilling the holes, I make sure I use a fixed base - hand position is usually closer to the workpiece so less chance of 'rocking' the bit. The trim was looking pretty good, but in a few areas it wasn't quite flush with the MDF so I used a block plane to level it.

This configuration makes it possible to use multiple off-the-shelf accessories: joint clamps, clamping elements, stops, etc. These 4 or 5-star reviews represent the opinions of the individuals who posted them and do not reflect the views of Etsy. So remove the dogs and reinsert the dogs 100 times into that CNC machined MFT you had made and the apply pressure from different directions to the dog holes and then simply measure the pattern and you will find out that your perfect MFT is less than perfect. But when I built the table, I completely forgot to position the bracing pieces as per the dimensions on the drawing, instead spacing them out evenly without thinking properly. They also have some other plywood products intended for cabinetry work that have plywood cores and manufactured surfaces. I'm going to use a 20mm auger bit, this set is by Irwin and you'll find links to this set in the description box below if you're interested. Compact™ 88 is a balanced blend of responsibly sourced wood fibres, bonding agents, resins, heat and then pressure.

And then I added a round over to the top edges of the trim, this is going to make the edges more durable. Festool's 20 mm hinge boring bit is made for shallow holes of 10 mm and does not have the precision required for dog holes, and their standard 20 mm bits are made for dados and are not really suited for plunge cutting. This combination square however is not accurate, it used to be but now it's out of square, and I can demonstrate that by doing the same test - here you can see the lines are not an equal distance apart. Had I thought about this, I would be able to flip the top over when it became too abused (and I do abuse it). It can be a bit tricky to drill large holes in to MDF because as the drill bit bites in to the layers of laminated wood, those layers can kind of tear, and that means the bit gets clogged up and stops biting in to the wood to drill properly.Quote from: Francis_Beland on January 10, 2020, 09:06 PM I'm currently in the process of doing this and I'm really disappointed by the 20mm Festool router bit. If I moved house and had a bigger shed, a basement where I had scope for expansion maybe the parf system would be a better idea. Woodpeckers took 2 new Festool MFTs and an old Festool MFT and measured all three of them on their vision system.
