Although the book was fast-paced and I tore through it, I did get a little bored with the lists, and here’s another murder. Overall, it’s another winner for me from an author who style of writing is one I especially enjoy and I always look forward to reading what he comes up with next. While most didn’t recognize any of them, FBI agent Jessica Winslow, whose own name is on the list, has a vague recollection that her father might have known someone with one of the names. And found myself referring back to them until the characters developed more and I could keep them all straight.

They dismiss it as junk mail, a fluke—until very, very bad things begin happening to people on the list. I think this is because each chapter of the story is quick and simple and moves on to another character without getting bogged down and allowing me to forget the others in the story. The narrative follows the potential victims and gives us a glimpse into their lives and how knowing they are on a killer's target list impacts them. The next section is EIGHT- The FBI gets the case when one of their own, Jessica Winslow from the Albany field office finds out she is one of the NINE…what are the others doing when they are told? Once the pattern of deaths to members on the list becomes clear, the remaining list members are provided protection but that doesn't stop the murders. Helpfully, one of the people is Jessica Winslow, an FBI agent who is quickly on the case hunting down the others on the list. I didn’t know what made them tick, they all seemed to be pretty one dimensional, a massive ick for me in fiction but again, I pushed on because I did want to see who was behind the list and killing off the characters one by one. But to keep ourselves on our toes, we have a rule that author gender is alternated, girl-boy-girl-boy, and the continents always rotated (with occasional glitches).

None of the nine know the other names on the list, some throw it in the trash, others just dismiss it as some kind of joke. The pacing is very fast and the writing makes it easy to breeze through the entire book in one sitting, there’s definitely no lack of action and the mystery leaves you yearning for answers. It's a lovely show to watch and last season included Lessons in Chemistry, which is a strong contender for my book of the year. Their professions range from oncology nurse to aspiring actor, and they’re located all over the country. Thanks to your review, I also checked out The Kind Worth Killing too and, wow, it sounds just as fantastic! But where Christie made clear that her characters had all committed crimes and the killer was out for revenge, the motives and location of Swanson’s killer are terrifyingly opaque. I enjoyed the writing style, I just think that the execution was lacking for this one and the sheer amount of POV’s that was thrown at the reader made it less of an enjoyable read, for me.
